Wilmington Set for Playoff Doubleheader Sunday

The girls soccer team hits the pitch at 4 p.m. while the boys soccer team plays at 6 p.m., with both squads facing Marblehead.

Wilmington soccer fans will be seeing double on Sunday at Alumni Stadium

The Wildcat boys and girls soccer team each hit the pitch on the day in their opening postseason tilt, and each team faces the same opponent.

First at 4 p.m., the girls team looks to advance as they take on Marblehead on their home field. Then at 6 p.m., Steve Scanlon's boys team is up, facing the Magicians in their own playoff opener.

Each team won their respective Middlesex League regular season title and earned a first round bye.

The Lady Wildcats notched a 12-3-3 mark to earn the No. 6 seed in the bracket. If they are able to advance, they'll earn a match up against either No. 3 Danvers or No. 14 Wayland in the quarterfinal round.

Scanlon's charges utilized their stellar defense to rack up a 12-1-5 record on the season, their only loss coming in a one-goal game against a difficult Winchester foe.

As a result, Wilmington is the No. 3 team in the bracket. If they win on Sunday, the Wildcats would take on No. 6 Bedford in the quarterfinals.
