Champoux Will Run for Re-Election to BOS [VIDEO]

Michael Champoux is a self-proclaimed "civis junkie" who enjoys the process of local government. This spring, he'll once again have a chance to be a part of it.

The current member on the Wilmington Board of Selectmen announced at Monday's meeting that he has already pulled his papers and will run for re-election in April's election.

"Nothing is a no brainer," said Champoux, who said he began considering re-election over the summer by discussing a possible run with those closest to him. "It was pretty clear early on that I felt like I could continue to be a contributing member to this board, at least for the next three years."

This is the first time Champoux will be up for re-election after he was chosen for his seat during his initial run.

for the Board of Selectmen and School Committee. Champoux said it's difficult to predict how many opponents he will have, but he's ready for the campaign regardless.

"If we get to the point where there is a contested race, I’m excited in participating in those conversations in a professional and respectful manner," he said.

Champoux said that the high school construction project remains an important issue in town. He added that the upcoming search for a new Town Manager to replace Michael Caira, who is , is another big project if he is re-elected.

"This town has given me and my family an awful lot," said Champoux. "It’s just a beautiful place to live. Because of that, I feel compelled as a citizen in this community to give something back. If I can do so in this role, then so be it."
