UPDATE: Wilmington Dispatcher Spots Missing Woman

The 87-year-old woman named Rita, who has Alzheimer's, was missing since about 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

UPDATED AT 4:18 p.m.: Shortly after 4 p.m., a Wilmington Police dispatcher was on his way home when he spotted Rita walking in Billerica.

Emergency personnel were called to the area for an evaluation, but Pupa said Rita was located "safe and sound" thanks to the sharp eyes of the dispatcher.

The area that Rita was located is about two to three miles from her home, Pupa said.

ORIGINAL STORY: The is seeking help from the community in locating an elderly woman who has been missing since early Tuesday afternoon.

According to Lt. Brian Pupa, an 87-year-old woman named "Rita" with Alzheimer's has been missing from the Forest Street area. Police did not release her last name.

Pupa said Rita went for a walk earlier this afternoon and has not been seen by her family since. She is known to frequent Wilmington Plaza and Lucci's Plaza.

"If anyone knows her, or happens to come across her, we ask them to contact the station," said Pupa.

Residents received a community alert this afternoon with details about the woman, who was last seen wearing a black sweater and blue jean Capri pants.
