Obituary: Longtime Wilmington Resident Worked in Town Hall and Real Estate

The following is an obituary courtesy of Nichols Funeral Home.

Doris V. (Skeffington) Reitchel, age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on May 2.

Doris was born in Boston on September 30, 1926; she was the cherished daughter of the late Richard and Doris (Johnson) Skeffington. Doris was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School with the Class of 1943.

Doris married and moved to Wilmington in 1950, where she raised a large and loving family. Doris was a “stay at home mom” for many years, she was truly devoted to raising her family of nine with unconditional love, endless support, and lots of guidance; they were absolutely her pride and joy. Doris was delighted when she became a grandmother and then a great-grandmother; all the more family to love and cherish.

As her family grew, Doris went to work at the Wilmington Town Hall for many years and then started a career in Real Estate. Doris worked at Fenton Real Estate Company in Wilmington where she had a great rapport with her customers as well as her co-workers. Doris always had a “keen eye” and a fascination for Real Estate which made her successful throughout the years.

In her spare time Doris enjoyed sewing, dancing, going to bingo, and playing cards with her family and friends.

Doris will be fondly remembered as a woman of great faith, strength, and for her kindness to others.  Doris touched countless lives throughout the years with her helpfulness and generosity; she was truly an amazing lady who will be sorely missed by all.

Doris was the beloved and devoted mother of Paul Reitchel & his wife Ellen of Augusta, ME, Kevin Reitchel & his wife Barbara and Richard Reitchel & his wife Debra all of China, ME, Marilyn Reitchel-Gambale of Augusta, ME, John “Bing” Reitchel & Joanne Centrella of Tewksbury, MA, Gene Reitchel of Naples, ME, William Reitchel & his wife Pamela Landry of Bradford, MA, Dorice Reitchel & her husband Bob Falco of Manchester, NH, and the late James Reitchel, loving “Nana” of Eddie, Dorice, Allison, Kimberly, Paul, Tiffany, Stacey, Dick Jr., Katey, Andrea, John, Tracy, Peter, Robert, William, Christopher, Gabriella, Julia, and the late Kristyn, “Big Nana” of Lincoln, Easton, Emmett, Ryan, Tyler, Casey, Brooke, Paige, Reid, Riley, Alexander, Layla, Arianna, Liliana, Michael, Violet, and Paige.  Cherished daughter of the late Richard and Doris (Johnson) Skeffington, dear sister of Linda Furrua of Novato, CA, the late Grace Preaux, Jean Griffiths, and Richard Skeffington.  Doris is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
