Wilmington Business Closes Up Shop

Sherry Spada enjoyed three years running a business that was unique to the Wilmington community. But as of the beginning of July, her doors are officially closed.

Paint-n-Play officially closed as of Monday when the lease ran out, allowing the shop’s owner to spend more time with her family. Spada opened in June 2010 and for three years provided the town’s families with the opportunity to paint their own ceramics.

“It wasn’t an easy decision,” said Spada. “My own kids are getting older, so I thought it was just a good time to move on. A lot of it had to do with the economy. As much as you do the marketing, there’s only so much you can do.”

Over her three years in business Spada offered events such as birthday parties and ladies night out. She said what she’ll miss most is her young clients.

“Do I regret it? No. But would I do it again? It would depend,” said Spada. “Out of everything what I’ll miss the most are the kids. I had the opportunity to bring this to Wilmington and the kids had a place to come. That was what I strived for, and I was able to do that.”

Many of Spada’s customers have been asking her what she has in mind for her next venture. According to the Wilmington resident, she has nothing planned for the immediate future – aside from spending quality time with her own family.

“I’ll get my weekends back, which is nice,” said Spada lightheartedly. “People will probably be looking for me, but I don’t know what I’ll do yet.”
