Visions for Vacancies: What Should Go Here?

We want your input as to what business you would like to see fill the Middlesex Ave. building formerly occupied by Dinette World.

Welcome to the first installment in our series "Visions for Vacancies," which gives you, the readers, a chance to play developer and planner.

Today's vacant property is the site of the business formerly known as Dinette World in North Wilmington, located at 353 Middlesex Ave. The building, which is available for sale or lease through The Stubblebine Company, is in a highly trafficked area and could be a good fit for a variety of businesses.

According to online listings, there is a total of about 42,600 square feet available, with both showroom and office space inside the building.

So we pose the question -- what business do you think would be a perfect fit in this location? Let us know in the comments section below.

- I'd love to see a CHUNKY'S in Wilmington! The square footage works -- Dinette World is 42,600 square feet; the Chunky's in Nashua is 42,400 square feet. (http://www.channelbuilding.com/projectrec3.html). - How about a Boys & Girls Club? - Any information on the donut shop that's going in down the street from there, across from Dunkin Donuts?

The property has a history to it. Before it was subdivided and this structure built, it was part of the old tannery property. The occupant before Dinette World was AVCO who researched at this location using mercury and boron. The property is currently zoned General Industry and is surrounded by residential homes, which limits what business can be conducted on the property. Some ideas (which may require rezoning): move the Planet Fitness that is next door, to that building; knock the building down and build a new Library; knock the building down and build homes; park land or recreational field.
