Friends, Family Remain 'Collier Strong' Nearly One Year After Bombings

Team Collier Strong is running the Boston Marathon this year in honor of Sean Collier, the Wilmington native who was killed in the hunt for the alleged bombers.

After the death of Wilmington native and MIT Police Officer Sean Collier, the support of the town and region was evident as loved ones and strangers alike vowed to remain Collier Strong. Nearly one year later, that support has not wavered.

Collier's friends and family have come together to form Team Collier Strong, which is fundraising and training to run the 2014 Boston Marathon in honor of Collier, who was shot and killed in the aftermath of the bombings while in the line of duty at MIT.

Countless residents have pledged their support for Team Collier Strong, with 2,603 people who like the group's Facebook page, and many others donating and buying t-shirts that support the cause.

Rob Rogers and his sister Jenn founded Team Collier Strong to honor their brother, and they've been training for the marathon run for months.

Proceeds will go to the Sean A. Collier Self Sponsor Scholarship, which pays for police academy training for recipients, according to the Team Collier Strong website.

The group also hopes to raise awareness for The Hole in the Wall Gang, which allows seriously ill children and their families to attend camp.

"Collier Strong to me means just to be the best person that you can, live life to the fullest, push through and enjoy the people who matter most to you," said Rob Rogers, according to a recent report on WCVB.com
