How Do You Feel About the Possibility of the RMV Leaving Wilmington?

Earlier we reported that the state Registry of Motor Vehicles is considering shutting down all but four of its branch offices, including the one in Wilmington

Under the proposed plan, 12 regional centers would be created to place the RMV offices into larger buildings with more desks and employees than the branch offices, according to a report on the proposed consolidation.

new document outlining potential regionalization and other proposals was presented to the department's board of directors last week.

The Wilmington branch, at 355 Middlesex Ave., is among the local offices that would be closed, if the conceptual plan is approved. Its 18 employees would be transferred to other centers, depending on demand, according to the report.

As part of the consolidation, 11 regional centers would be opened in Lowell, Barnstable, New Bedford, Raynham, Braintree, Burlington, Haverhill, Framingham, Worcester, Leominster, Springfield and Pittsfield.

Wilmington would be served by the Burlington, Haverhill and Lowell regional centers.
