Annual Wilmington Tree Lighting Ceremony Set for Dec. 7

The festivities will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.

At their Nov. 12 meeting, Wilmington Selectmen voted 4-0 to approve use of the town common for a tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 7.

Chairman of the Wilmington Fourth of July Committee Scott Garrant, who also works to organize the annual tree lighting ceremony told Selectmen the festivities would be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.

According to Garrant, festivities will include an appearance by Santa at 6 p.m. to light the tree and take photos with children at the Fourth of July building.

Other attractions at the tree lighting ceremony will include hot chocolate, an ice sculpture display sponsored by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and local businesses and a model train display.

Selectmen Chairman Michael McCoy thanked Garrant and his committee for the work they do bringing the Wilmington community together for holidays throughout the year.

"You guys do an outstanding job not only during Christmas time but obviously during the Fourth of July as well," McCoy said.

Selectmen Judy O'Connell said the tree lighting is an experience everyone in the community looks forward to sharing each year.

"I think it's great you continue the tradition annually and I know the community gets a lot out of it," O'Connell said.
