About Josephine
Im a resident of this town, since June 2001. I attend every town meeting since then, even in major pain.
I used to go to the selectmans meetings, had to sit in the aisle because there is no seating adjustments for people in wheelchairs.
I had to stop, because im allergic to scents. and everyone has several on.. so rather then disrupt the meetings with my asthmatic coughing. ive had to stop going.
does not make me less interested in the workings of the town.
Im passionate about the water quality. Wilmington used to have great tasting water when i moved here in 2001.. since then.. its nasty!!. many time i turn on the tap to get a drink, and its got color and a nasty smell, like too much sulfur, and it tastes terrible. enough to make me puke.
so for that reason alone.. i am passionate about the water quality in town. the Wetlands are the important part.. they are the standing water, that seeps down into the water table that is what is then shared by all the towns in the area.. that in turn is what is pumped up into water treatment plants.. and the amt of contamination in the ground water, is what makes the water treatment what it is.. very sad!!
People say that the future of the children lays in the building of a newer highschool.. thats the surface.. in my opinion..
what is the most important aspect of the children in this town?? having decent water to drink!!> if we continue to contaminate the water around us.. it impacts everyone..
just because we buy our water from others, does not negate our actions.. if we further contaminate the ground water thru drainage into the wetlands, we are not being responsible for our environment.
Im native american and proud of my ancestry. We are taught that the land does not belong to us, it belongs to Creator, and it is thru our stewardship of the land, that protects it for the use of our children.
If we do not protect the water, what sort of environment will there be for our children when they are adults?? or when they have children of their own??
Will there be yet more cancer? (dont expect any 'cures' (they already exist!) as 'cancer' is big business for drug mfgs its their money maker!, and they do not want the actual cures for cancer to be made public, )
Will our children live long lives? will their children grow up to be adults??
Only Creator knows this..
but we can ensure healthier living for our children, if we respect the wetlands and what they have to offer to us and to the children.
to protect the wetlands, we have to follow the state and federal laws.. and stop making laws to fit the fancy.
state laws say that nothing can be build within 200ft (thats straight linear, not going up the side of a bank or cliff ) of the river and wetlands, yet the town has repeatedly allowed building to be with in 25 ft?? no wonder olin had such an impact!. had there been 200ft of land and filtration between their dumping and the wetlands.. their impact on the water would not have been as great.. it would still have had an impact, but not one that the town residents would still be paying for in the years to follow.
so why should the building of the school be any different? maybe its because the reason for the school is to provide further education for the children and to give them a better chance at survival.
but i wonder how well their ability to be attentive and learn will be. I wonder if the quality of their water will have an impact on that ? i guess its going to be a wait and see, since most are more concerned that the building is built, then to have regard for how and where it is built..
I feel sorrow for Mother Earth. She provides for all equally, with a place to live, food to eat and water to drink.
Its a pity that some are more concerned for what they can build upon the land.. then having concern for the land they build it on!.
