I'm not sure how you can leave the gates down when there's trucks going in and out all day?

ReplyLooks like XPEDX is spelled wrong for Tues at 1:29. Also getting reports that a driver was arrested for attempting to run over picketers and police just now. Driveway is currently block so no trucks going in or out.

ReplyMy commute didn't use to be as long as these folks, but I think it's around the normal for many people working in Boston: 1.5 hours one way. I've since moved jobs and now work a mile from home, so it's almost like seeing both sides of it now. I can agree that it can become somewhat of a community when you take the same train everyday and see the same people.

Anyway, my morning routine is to chase him out of the road when I walk to the train station.

On the article Concerns About Ravine Road Return in Melrose and Stoneham

ReplyOh brother, its not the road's fault, its the idiots who don't pay attention when they drive past it. I bike/drive on and near Ravine all the time. I can say it is pretty dangerous, but I think the resolution would be to stop arguing about it and fix the connection between Ravine and W Wyoming. The problem is that people don't stop at the line when they want to cross, and they cause traffic on W Wyoming street to slow or stop, backing up to Pond street.
If they only allow right turns, or extend the size of the island, I think it would help quite a bit. That way you don't have people trying to cross W Wyoming or decide at the last minute to turn left onto W Wyoming.

ReplyThe bf and I were kayaking in Upper Mystic Lake and came across a couple swans and their nest.
While the swans stayed far enough away (we're a bit bigger in our 16' boats) the male had some fun chasing a goose all the way across the pond.
When I get home to Melrose I'll have to check out our new neighbors!

I left this comment on Twitter, but I'll repeat here:
In general I don't think it's a good idea. I don't see any benefit in making the days longer for kids. There's no added benefit to the community by making the kids and teachers stay later at the school. As someone who had the day lengthened while I was in school, I remember it just being more of a waste of time.
Also, they're looking at doing it in lower-income communities, where drop-out rates are generally higher as it is, sometimes due to having to deal with family issues.
