Wilmington High School’s Model United Nations/Debate club traveled to St. John’s Prep in Danvers for another conference on Saturday, December 8. The club discussed current topics such as Illegal Human Trafficking, Space Debris, as well as International Fishing Regulations. The guest speaker for the occasion was Mr. John Robb. Mr. Robb is an expert in anti-terrorism as well as an author and entrepreneur. Robb spoke to the over 300 delegates about his experience in the field working for President Clinton, Bush and Obama. Wilmington High School’s Model United Nations club went to their first conference of the year on Saturday, October 20. Model UN is a debate club in which students travel to different conferences to debate current events, both local and global. Model UN gives students the unique opportunity to perfect their public speaking skills with their peers, as well as allowing them to debate issues that they feel passionately about. Model United Nations club and 9/11 Memorial Committee earn valuable lessons from trip to New York City.
The Wilmington High School 9/11 Memorial Committee inspired the Board of Selectmen during Monday’s meeting. But earlier in April, the students were the ones inspired. Members of the Model United Nations club joined students from the memorial committee in an early April trip to New York City, and the 9/11 Memorial was one of the stops. “Being there in the heart of NYC and standing there in place of the attacks created feelings of awe, sadness, and devastation,” said 9/11 Memorial Committee faculty advisor Tracey Kassin. “While we had talked about these things at our meetings and in classes around the time of the tenth anniversary, I think you only really see the magnitude and enormity of what happened when you’re there.” Kassin said one of …
