Thursday is Final Day for Yentile Farm Survey

Time is running out for residents to give feedback on what they'd like to see built on the property.

Residents still have time to weigh in on what they'd like to see built on the recently purchased Yentile Farm property, just not a lot of time. Thursday is the final day to take the town's online survey regarding the property, which is located at 9 Cross Street. The Yentile Farm Development Committee put together the survey as a way to make sure town officials know what the wishes of the community are. "It’s a site that can only be developed so much, so we won’t be able to put anything and everything we want," said chairman Judy O'Connell in December. "But we want to pick a high priority list and try to work with that to utilize the property so it’s something the town can be proud of.” Some ideas that have been mentioned by Patch readers …

Community Asked to Weigh in on Yentile Development

The town has released a survey asking what residents believe is the best use of the Cross Street land.

Town officials have said all along that they would seek resident input during the process of developing the Yentile Farm land. With a new community survey currently available online, there’s no better time than now to weigh in. The eight question survey asks about desired activities, concerns and other input that will help inform the Yentile Farm Development Committee of the residents’ wishes. Judy O’Connell, a Wilmington selectman and the head of the committee, said the town is also reaching out to every group that could take advantage of the property. That includes the high school athletics department, local youth sports groups, Recreation Commission, elderly services and more. “Everyone is really looking forward to something being …

In addition, selectman Judy O’Connell was named committee chairman while Kevin Caira was named vice chairman. O’Connell said it’s been exciting to see such a high amount of interest from the community wanting to get involved with the planning process. “I think it is another example of how the Wilmington community rises to opportunity to come together as a resident body for the betterment …

Selectmen Announce Yentile Farm Planning Committee

The board will consist of residents and town officials from various departments as the town looks to decide how to best use the Cross Street land.

The Wilmington Board of Selectmen laid out a plan during their Monday meeting to form a committee that will shape the development of Yentile Farm. In a letter to his fellow selectmen, chairman Mike Newhouse recommended board members combine to form a committee that will help decide exactly how the 9 Cross Street property that was recently purchased by the town will be used. Newhouse suggested, and board members agreed, that the committee will be made up of one member appointed by each selectmen, one member appointed by Town Manager Michael Caira, Caira or a designee of his choice, Public Works Superintendent Don Onusseit or a selection of his choice, the Recreation Director, the Planning and Conservation Director, the Health Director, and …

Jam Packed Monday Agenda for Selectmen

Items up for discussion include Yentile Farm development and high school appeals.

After a one-month layoff due to a scaled back summer schedule, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen will get back to work with a busy schedule on Monday at 7 p.m. inside Town Hall, Room 9. First on the agenda is discussion about how the town will move forward with plans at 9 Cross Street, the land previously known as Yentile Farm. During a "You Ask... Patch Answers" last week, Board of Selectmen chairman Mike Newhouse said the process will be brought to the forefront again after it was pushed to the back burner by the high school appeals. The chairman added that resident feedback is welcome as to what should be built on the property. The second item on Monday's agenda is a report on the high school appeals process, which has delayed …

You Ask... Patch Answers

What's the Latest on the Yentile Farm Planning?

If you have a You Ask...Patch Answers question, e-mail matthew.schooley@patch.com.

With the high school project and subsequent appeals topping town issues in recent weeks and months, one project has flown under the radar in Wilmington. The town recently finalized its purchase of Yentile Farm. And for our latest "You Ask… Patch Answers," one reader wants to know what the next steps are for the land. “How can Wilmington citizens stay involved in the planning efforts for the Yentile Farm project?” the reader asked. Board of Selectmen chairman Mike Newhouse said the question is not only a good one, but also a timely one. Newhouse said he plans to put the topic on the agenda for the board’s next meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 13. “The first thing residents can do is tune in then,” said Newhouse. “We’ll have a …

Yentile Farm Purchase Finalized by Selectmen

During busy Tuesday meeting, members signed paperwork with closing date of June 6.

Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting was a busy one. In addition to naming Jeff Hull as the next Wilmington Town Manager and discussing the latest petition of the high school project by a group of 13 residents, board members also finalized the purchase of Yentile Farm. Louis M. Ross of Deutsch/Williams finalized the paperwork with board members, who signed off on the purchase that was approved at Annual Town Meeting earlier this month. No formal discussions have been held to decide what will be developed on the land. The land, however, was purchased with the intent to construct more fields for the youth sports in town. “I think this is a great thing for the Town of Wilmington,” said selectman Mike McCoy. “This property was set to go for …

MacDonald may be wrong in his presentation, but Kim, didn't your mother teach you the same thing? Of all the hateful things I have heard said in town, more has come from this site than from town meetings. Of course, that is because people can snipe from anonymity here, and not need to stand up and let people see who they are. I may not agree with MacDonald all the time, but I am sure he has more …   more ›

Tuesday Board of Selectmen meeting is slated for Town Hall, Room 9, at 7 p.m.

A pair of important discussions are on the agenda for the Board of Selectmen meeting set for Tuesday night. POLL: What Should Go At Yentile Farm?

Vote in our poll and weigh in with your development plans in the comments section below.

Thanks to a vote by the Board of Selectmen and a second approval by voters, Wilmington is set to purchase land at 9 Cross Street, known as Yentile Farm. The purchase isn't official yet, but the town has entered into a purchase and sale agreement. Board of Selectmen chairman Michael Newhouse said members have not discussed any specifics yet of what they'll do with the land, but those conversations will kick up likely in June. "The Board of Selectmen clearly supports the idea of enhancing our inventory of recreational field space," said Newhouse. "I also would emphasize that the process will be an open and transparent one, and public input will be welcome." Several Patch readers have asked about the property, saying they'd like to see things…

A dog park with some parking would be ideal. There are so many dogs in my neighborhood, and we probably average 1 per home. It's a great way to meet townspeople, and we wouldn't have to drive to Lowell to get our dogs some great exercise.   more ›
