Wildcats Enjoying Rare Run to New England Track Meet

Wilmington's 4x400 relay team of Alex Bischoff, Rachel Alatalo, Cassie Grasso and Michelle Barnes joins runner Steve Halas and shot putter Eli Jennings at Saturday's event.

Thomas Bradley’s winter track and field season is usually wrapped up by this point each year. But thanks to one group of runners, he’s making a trip he’s made just three times. Bradley, the Wilmington High School girls track head coach, will join his 4x400 relay team at the New England Meet on Saturday, a competition he has had athletes qualify for just twice during his winter coaching career and once during the spring season. “It’s a huge meet,” said Bradley. “It doesn’t happen very often.” During the state competition on February 23, the Lady Wildcats ran to a fifth place finish with a time of 4:05.99. The team that will run on Saturday ranked No. 9 entering their event is made up of Alex Bischoff, Rachel Alatalo, Cassie Grasso and …

You are correct, Mary. Coach Bradley was sure to mention when we spoke that assistant coach Tracy Botehlo was a big reason the girls reached the New England Meet. She was able to help set it up so the relay team could practice at Reading High School's indoor track facility when the weather made it difficult for them to practice outside. WHS Track Excels, Relay Team Wins Division 3 Crown

The boys 4x400 relay team won the Division 3 title while the girls 4x400 team came in second. Other individuals performed well and the boys team finished in fifth place.

The Wilmington boys and girls 4x400 meter relay teams saved some of their best performances for last. And they weren’t the only Wildcats to do so. Both Wilmington track teams put together strong individual performances at the Division 3 state championship meet on February 14, leading to a fifth place team finish for the boys and 18th place result for the Lady Wildcats. The highlight of the event came in the 4x400 relay races, as the boys team made up of Pat Barry, Colin Chase, Andrew Sears and Steve Halas outlasted Canton and ran a time of 3:34.35, earning the Wildcats a Division 3 championship. “Three of the four of them are seniors, and they’ve had very successful careers. This was really a culmination of a lot of hard work over a lot of…

Girls Track Team Earns First Win

Lady Wildcats topple Stoneham on Monday.

The Wilmington High School girls track team sports weaknesses in several events. They covered well for that recently as the Lady Wildcats earned their first win of the season against Stoneham. Head coach Thomas Bradley's charges snagged a 46-40 road win thanks to strong times by the team's leading competitors. "We have some terrific athletes," said Bradley. Among those athletes is Cali Peffer, who was first in the 300-meter run, followed by teammates Alex Bischoff in second and Michelle Barnes in third. That same trio teamed up with Rachel Alatalo to win the 4x400 relay in the last event of the day to seal the win. The team ran the event in 4 minutes, 18 seconds. Other strong performers were Kelly Hartsough, who won the 1,000 meter run …
