Conservation and Planning Talks In the Works for Target

The business will continue efforts to build a Wilmington facility in upcoming weeks and months.

Though a pair of discussions with town boards scheduled for last week were tabled, Target representatives will soon be hard at work at the local level as they hope to start construction within a year on a new Wilmington location. Representatives from the company were slated to meet with the Planning Board last Tuesday and the Conservation Commission on Thursday. While the Planning Board reached a decision on Target’s proposed sign permits, Planning Director Carole Hamilton said the town asked for an extension because it was a complicated request and Wilmington officials want to make sure they get it right. “I wasn’t comfortable that we had produced a decision that I wanted to issue,” said Hamilton, who said the Planning board just received…

Decision Expected Tuesday on Target Signage

The Planning Board holds its regular meeting on Tuesday night in Town Hall, Room 9.

Wilmington's Planning Board agenda for Tuesday's meeting includes an expected decision on signage for the Target project that has been in the works for several years. Board members are slated to meet at 7:30 p.m. inside Town Hall, Room 9, and among their new business is a decision on Sign Special Permit #12-2 for 210 Ballardvale Street, which is where the Target is set to be built. Planning Director Carole Hamilton said earlier in the summer that Target representatives asked for a wall sign on the main façade of the building that extends above the roof line. In addition, the company seeks two secondary signs that face Ballardvale Street and I-93. Wilmington bylaws allow just one secondary sign and a third sign in special circumstances at …

Target Talk Pushed Back, Analog in Front of Planning Board

A Planning Board meeting is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Town Hall.

Discussion scheduled for Tuesday’s Planning Board meeting about the Target project has been delayed until next month, though a host of other agenda items will be up for discussion during tonight’s session. Brian Dundon of RJ O’Connell & Associates was slated to represent the Target Corporation at 7:45 p.m., discussing a special sign permit for the property that is expected to be built on Ballardvale Street. But instead, the deadline was pushed back to September 4 and the company will likely be scheduled on the next Planning Board agenda. Craig Bergeron of Analog Devices is the next scheduled appointment, set to meeting with board members at 8:15 p.m. According to the Planning Department, Bergeron is seeking approval for a corporate …

Planning Board Remains in Discussion With Target

Decisions on overall project and sign specifics to come in upcoming months.

Representatives from Target continue to work with the Wilmington Planning Board and construction is unlikely to being before next spring according to a letter given to the Board of Selectmen at Monday's meeting. According to the update from Planning Director Carole Hamilton, the Planning Board opened a public hearing for sign special permits during a June 5 meeting. Hamilton said Target representatives asked for a wall sign on the main façade of the building that extends above the roof line. In addition, the company seeks two secondary signs that face Ballardvale Street and I-93. But Wilmington bylaws allow just one secondary sign and a third sign in special circumstances at the Planning Board’s discretion. Board members also received a …

POLL: Too Many Targets Near Wilmington?

While many readers are excited for Target to open in town, others think there are enough in the area. Vote in our poll below to weigh in.

As we reported earlier in the week, within the next two or so years, Target will likely be opening its doors in Wilmington. Target officials met with the Planning Board recently, and over the next year they'll be working with the town on permitting for the Ballardvale Street location. There are plenty of readers who said they are excited to have a new shopping option in town, but other readers have questioned the necessity of the plans, which have been in the work since about 2008. On the Wilmington Patch Facebook page, reader Brianna Harrison echoed the sentiment of several other residents. "I have a sincere love for Target but the one in Woburn is pretty close," she wrote. In addition to the Target in Woburn, there are plans in the works…

You Ask... Patch Answers: When is Target Opening?

We provide an update of the store's construction plans on Ballardvale Street.

Target is coming to Wilmington. When exactly it will happen isn’t quite clear, but the wheels are again turning on the project after the slowed economy forced the retail corporation to temporarily step back from its plans. Wilmington Patch readers asked us for an update on the construction that was scheduled to be completed on Ballardvale Street in 2010. The answer is that the project is back underway, with the company sending a representative to a Planning Board meeting as recently as last week. Planning Director Carole Hamilton said the group was in front of the Planning Board as an initial step in its permit work. Target builders are planning to make changes in drainage and also add some additional parking. Original discussion of a …
