Scenes From the Wilmington High School Mock Accident

Ahead of their prom, Wilmington High School students gathered to watch a mock accident and take a moment to reflect on the dangers of impaired driving.

  Wilmington High School students gathered on Tuesday afternoon to watch a scenario play out in which six of their classmates were involved in a mock car accident precipitated by drunk driving.  One of the students, senior Ling Zhong, was the one fatality of the mock accident. Senior Jack Campbell portrayed the drunk driver in the accident.   Members of the Wilmington Fire Department and Wilmington Police Department also participated in the mock accident, using the jaws of life to accurately demonstrate the actions taken by first responders at the scene of car wreck.

Everybody, especially stubborn high school KIDS (emphasis on KIDS) needs life lessons. These children have heard at least 16 years of their parents telling them not to do this and not to do that. Newsweek Top-Rated School List Leaves Off Wilmington High

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday.

  On mobile? You can see interactive map here. Newsweek has ranked the high schools nationally, but the criteria they used leaves Wilmington High School off of their list. The school also missed the cut for the top 500 nationally by US News, as well as for Boston Magazine's top 20 list.  For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about the ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above. Benton Names Interim Principal Of Wilmington High School

New principal brings more than 35 years of education experience to the position.

Wilmington Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton has named Linda Peters as the interim principal at Wilmington High School for the 2013-2014 school year. Peters has been with the Wilmington Public Schools for 35 years and is currently curriculum team leader for the Math Department at Wilmington High. Peters will succeed Eric Tracy, who has accepted a position as principal at Hamilton-Wenham High School, effective July 1. Benton broke the news in an email to school committee members Monday afternoon. School Committee member Robert Hayes published the memo on his Facebook Page. Students were recognized for their academic work in a variety of courses in the month of January.

Funeral Services Scheduled Thursday for WHS Senior

Seventeen-year-old Joe Murphy will be remembered during a service at Nichols Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m.

Services are scheduled Thursday for Joseph "Murph" Murphy, the Wilmington High School senior who died unexpectedly on Monday.  According to Murphy’s obituary on the Nichols Funeral Home website, visiting hours are scheduled for Thursday from 3-6 p.m., immediately followed by a celebration of Joe’s life at 6 p.m. During Wednesday night’s School Committee meeting, board members held a moment of silence in Murphy’s honor. Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton said flags at the school will be flown at half staff on Thursday.  Benton read remarks from several teachers who recalled what Murphy, 17, was like inside the hallways of Wilmington High School. “I will remember Joe as a bright, good natured, friendly young man,” said one teacher. “I …

Wilmington High School Grieving Death of Senior Student

Principal Eric Tracy confirmed that senior Joseph Murphy passed away over the long weekend.

Wilmington High School students and faculty are grieving the loss of a student who died over the long weekend. Principal Eric Tracy confirmed Tuesday morning that senior Joseph Murphy died, and that the school will be do anything it can to help students grieve. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and classmates of one of our own, Wilmington High School senior Joseph Murphy," said Tracy in an e-mail to Patch. "This is a difficult time for the Wilmington High family." According to Tracy, counselors and support will be available on Tuesday and in the upcoming days for any student in need. In addition, any parents who may need assistance can contact the school's guidance department by calling (978) 694-6068.

VIDEO: No Raining On Wilmington Horribles Parade

With the weather canceling the parade, children headed straight to Wilmington High School to gather goodies from Wilmington businesses and groups.

It may have rained on their parade, but that didn't stop a long line of Wilmington 'horribles' from filing into Wilmington High School on Sunday to trick-or-treat as Wilmington businesses and groups handed out candy and other goodies. When Volunteer Opportunities Call, WHS Students Answer

This fall, Wilmington High School students have led a variety of volunteer efforts to support groups like the Food Pantry.

When the community is in need, there’s one group of residents who aren’t far behind, willing to help. This fall has been no different. Wilmington High School students have participated in a variety of drives for non-profit organizations in recent weeks, including one for the Wilmington Food Pantry and another club that is supporting Local Heroes. “It is exciting and makes me proud that our students can immediately mobilize when necessary,” said WHS principal Eric Tracy. “They have always gone above and beyond the call of duty in these situations.
