Town Clerk Expects High Voter Turnout in Wilmington

Sharon George said it's possible that 80 percent of the town's registered voters head to the polls Tuesday on Election Day.

If your plan is to make a quick trip in and out of your polling precinct on Election Day, you may be in for a bit of a surprise. According to Wilmington Town Clerk Sharon George, residents should plan to wait in line when they arrive to vote with the possibility that 80 percent of eligible voters will come to the polls. “There will be a line,” said George. “If people are planning to vote before work, they should try to get here early. We will move as efficiently as humanly possible to get people out as fast as we can.” George said that during the 2008 presidential election, 70 percent of Wilmington voters came to the polls, a total of over 12,000 residents. Sears Endorsed By Citizens For Limited Taxation

Republican is challenging incumbent state Rep. Jim Micelli in 19th Middlesex District.

Last week, Republican candidate for State Representative Doug Sears announced his endorsement by Citizens for Limited Taxation. Citizens for Limited Taxation (CLT), based in Marblehead, is a group focused on taxpayer issues and legislative reform. “I am thrilled to have the endorsement of Citizens for Limited Taxation. CLT works to inform voters about legislators who will stand up for the taxpayers and keep government spending in line. Sears, Miceli To Debate Just Once Before Election

Incumbent state representative declines invitations from local media outlets for two additional debates.

Republican Doug Sears says he is anxious to debate state Rep. Jim Miceli, D-Wilmington, as many times as possible in the days leading up to the Nov. 6 Election. Miceli has made clear he will only agree to one debate. That one debate will take place on Oct. 24 in the Tewksbury Memorial High School Auditorium. The event will be sponsored by the Lowell Sun and will feature a media panel including representatives from Patch and the Town Crier. Tewksbury Patch and Wilmington Patch had invited Sears and Miceli to participate in a one-on-one debate at Tewksbury Town Hall on Oct. 11. State Rep. Hopeful Sears Weighs in On Wilmington Issues

Doug Sears said he the high school project is priority No. 1 while issues with public comments and the Middlesex Ave./Glen Road intersection are also on his radar.

State Representative Jim Miceli weighed in on the high school appeals process this summer. Now, his opponent in the upcoming election is offering his thoughts on the topic and other issues facing Wilmington. Tewksbury selectman Doug Sears said the high school project is the No. 1 concern that he hears while talking to residents on the campaign trail. Sears said he understands why some parents in town may be frustrated by the process. “If I were a parent in the Wilmington schools and my child would be on the cusp of going to a brand new school, all I have to do is look at the brand new school in Tewksbury to visualize how excited I would be,” said Sears. “If there were folks who are trying to slow it down for reasons that may be less than …
