Executive Director Nancy Vallee praised all of the groups involved in Sundays 5k and half marathon.
You don’t have to be a finely tuned runner to participate in the Chamber of Commerce’s road race on Sunday. But if you are, it’s still a great race to run. More than 500 participants will take the streets for the eighth annual 5k and half marathon on Sunday morning, bringing together residents from all walks of life for a race that combines competitive fitness and community interaction. “Everyone is doing the race for a different reason,” said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Vallee. “You have people volunteering, people walking for their own reasons, and a lot of local gyms who have been training people for six months for this. Then you have the business community who has helped sponsor the race. That’s just the community …

Lowell's minor league baseball team holds Wilmington Day on Friday night and Stephen King will also be in attendance at the game.
Wilmington residents have had the chance to see Michael Caira in action as Town Manager for more than two decades. On Friday, they’ll have the chance to see what skills he has on the pitcher’s mound. Caira will throw out the first pitch at tonight’s Lowell Spinners game as part of the festivities for Wilmington Day at LeLacheur Park, which begins with a dinner at 5:30 p.m. for those who purchased tickets through the Rotary Club and Chamer of Commerce. “I don’t really know what to expect from Mike’s first pitch,” said Chamber of Commerce President Mike Champoux. “Though I didn’t know him back then, I’ve heard that he was quite the athlete in his younger days. I suspect it’ll make it over home plate.” In addition to Caira’s pitch, the state …

Town's Chamber of Commerce offering five scholarships to Wilmington High School and Shawsheen Tech students thanks to road race proceeds.
Wilmington’s Chamber of Commerce isn’t just a helpful resource for local businesses. The group is also assisting students as they look to take their education to the next level. The Chamber is offering five scholarships totaling $5,000 to the Class of 2012 from Wilmington High School and Shawsheen Technical High School, thanks in large part to proceeds from the annual half marathon and 5k run/walk. “Part of the Chamber’s mission is to enhance the quality of life within or community by supporting civic and social welfare,” said Executive Director Nancy Vallee. “The Chamber is not only a resource for the business community, it is also a resource for the entire community.” Three of the scholarships will be provided to students pursuing a …

A Wilmington favorite for the past five years, the Chamber of Commerce Comedy Night is known for providing a few laughs as well as a great opportunity to get out and socialize. Hosted by local favorite Steve Bjork and scheduled for Friday, February 17, in the Shriners Auditorium Fez Room, the Chamber Comedy Night is sure to provide a much needed night out for parents as they prepare for school vacation week. This year’s show will feature …

Chamber of Commerce members participate in speed networking event.
These days life happens fast. We have grown accustomed to fast food, fast lanes, express checkout and, yes, even speed dating. Now, as if all of that wasn’t fast enough, it’s time to add another fast paced event to the list; speed networking. On Tuesday, members of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, along with members from the Reading/North Reading Chamber participated in a unique speed networking event at the Great American Tavern in North Reading. Based on the same concept as speed dating, speed networking is, as Chamber President Nancy Vallee explained, “a fun, exciting and effective way to make a lot of initial connections in a short time.” With each session timed by a two minute warning bell and a four minute cutoff, the event is …
