A three-sport athlete, the senior is currently a captain for the Lady Wildcats basketball team.
As part of a new feature on Patch, we will highlight the efforts of Wildcat athletes on a weekly basis. We begin with senior basketball player Michelle Woods. Finding something to do during the school year isn’t much of a problem for Wilmington High School senior Michelle Woods. Woods plays three varsity sports, and is currently a tri-captain for the Lady Wildcats basketball team, which clinched a playoff spot with a win this week versus Wakefield. In addition to her contributions on the hardwood, she also suits up for the Wilmington tennis and volleyball teams. “I don’t really have a favorite sport, just because they all bring different things to the table,” said Woods. “I really enjoy all the sports I play.” The senior is still whittling…

Despite a 2-6 start to the season, the Wilmington girls basketball team is heading back to the postseason this year.
A strong group of seven seniors was honored before last night's Wilmington girls basketball game. But it was a pair of juniors who jolted the Wildcats to a postseason berth. Carli and Christa Brent combined for 30 of the team's points in a 47-37 victory over Wakefield that was the team's 10th of the season. That sealed a playoff spot for the locals, depsite a 2-6 start to the campaign. "Even at 2-6, we were right there," said head coach Jay Keane. "It was just about finding a way to compliment each other. We're just moving the ball around a little more and being patient on offense, and as simple as that sounds, it's helped us turn things around." Among the seniors who were honored before the game was Michelle Woods, who chipped in eight …

Volleyball team sweeps to win over Watertown.
Wilmington girls volleyball team swept past Watertown on Monday night at the Watertown High School Gym, winning three consecutive sets in convincing fashion to improve to 2-4 on the year. “We did better today than we have in the past games, we really made our past issues go away today, so hopefully we can run with that throughout the rest of the season,” said Wilmington head coach Meghan Sheehy. Watertown dropped the first set 25-13, though the set was competitive early. The Raiders tied the set 9-9 on an ace before Wilmington rattled off 10 straight points to take the lead for good. “We were playing against a good team, and I wouldn’t call it a step back, but it wasn’t a step forward either,” said Watertown head coach Maura Hamel. “It…
