Thefts and Vandalism at Wildwood Cemetery
A number of grave thefts and senseless acts of vandalism have been occurring at the cemetery recently.
A series of senseless crimes at the Wildwood Cemetery in recent weeks have left Wilmington residents shaking their heads and wondering why. Most prominent is a police report dated Friday, November 25, in which a caller reported three headstones at the cemetery were broken and left behind the Arts building–only one was able to be replaced. But that act of ultimate disrespect isn't an isolated incident, just in the last two weeks police received calls about stolen flowers on November 17 and 29, and three stolen flags reported on December 1. These calls are just the latest in a series of thefts that have occurred at the cemetery; and this is not even the full picture of the last few weeks as many other thefts seem to remain unreported. …
