Tank Collapse Didn't Surprise P.J. Dionne Owner

Paul Dionne reacts to weekend collapse of water tank, which has yet to be removed from Jonspin Road.

The significance of the damage surprised Paul Dionne. The fallen water tank did not. Dionne, the owner of P.J. Dionne Company at 60 Jonspin Road reacted on Monday to the weekend collapse of a 400,000 gallon water tank behind his business. "It was more damage than I thought I would see coming around the corner," said Dionne. "I wasn't totally surprised that the tank came down, just by the looks of it." The tank came down Friday at about 6 p.m., and remains on the ground behind the Jonspin Road business. Dionne said it's uncertain how much it will cost to replace equipment damaged by the falling metal and ensuing rush of water. Three trucks were impacted by the incident, and the company was forced to arrange rental trucks to get back to …

Recapping a Busy Weekend for Fire Department

Water tower collapse and tree through local home keep firefighters on their toes.

After a relatively quiet few months by comparison for the Wilmington Fire Department, it was a busy weekend for firefighters. In case you missed any of the action, we provide you with a recap of the events of the last three days. On Friday at about 6 p.m., firefighters received several 911 calls from residents in the area of 60 Jonspin Road reporting a loud noise coming from the industrial road behind their homes. The noise was the collapse of a water tank behind P.J. Dionne, which left massive damage in the area. VIDEO: Clean Up Continues On Jonspin Road

Wall of water moves equipment, causes small oil spill as work continued into Saturday and more expected on Sunday.

Plenty of work remains ahead at 60 Jonspin Road, where a Friday water tank collapse caused significant damage behind P.J. Dionne Company. According to Wilmington Deputy Fire Chief John Brown, firefighters were at the scene until 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, only to return to work on Saturday. No Injuries in Tank Collapse 'A Stroke of Luck'

Deputy Chief said clean up will take days after water tank collapsed on Friday evening.

Deputy Fire Chief John Brown said clean up of Friday’s water tank collapse on Jonspin Road will take days but added that the timing of the incident was fortunate as it prevented serious injuries. Work at 60 Jonspin Road continued into Saturday afternoon as environmental workers cleaned up a small oil spill in the nearby ravine, construction workers ripped up pavement to access the water main, and workers from P.J. Dionne walked through the carnage. This came after clean up work extended for firefighters and gas company employees until about 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning. “Fortunately, by a stroke of luck, there was no significant damage to the building and no injuries,” said Brown. “A couple of hours earlier and it would have been a …

Cause of Water Tank Collapse Not Yet Known

Work on Jonspin Road continued late into Friday night.

Wilmington Fire Lt. Dan Hurley said late Friday night that the cause of a water tank collapse on Jonspin Road is not yet known. The collapse, which occurred at about 6 p.m., forced the evacuation of homes on nearby Blueberry Lane because of an ensuing gas leak. "It was a pretty good (gas) release," said Hurley. "The way the wind was taking the gas to the residential section, they had an engine and ambulance go over there and have them evacuate just for precautionary reasons." Hurley said the tank was the water supply for only Jonspin Road. As of about 10 p.m. on Friday night firefighters were still working to restore full water pressure to the domestic and sprinkler systems in the buildings. Jonspin Road is a located just off of Andover …

Water Tower Collapse Triggers Gas Leak, Evacuation

Residents were allowed back in homes in less than 30 minutes after gas was shut off.

Residents of Blueberry Lane were evacuated Friday evening after a water tower collapse on Jonspin Road caused a gas leak in the area. A member of the Water Department said the tower, which collapsed around 6 p.m., is not a town owned tower and was installed when Jonspin Road was built. It is located behind P.J. Dionne Company, Inc., at 60 Jonspin Road. When the tower fell, it landed on several pick up trucks and took down multiple trees with it. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they smelled gas and evacuated residents from nearby Blueberry Lane. As of about 6:40 p.m., the gas was shut off and residents were allowed back in their homes. A witness at the scene said there are no injuries and personnel are assessing the damage and …
