Tewksbury may have won the game, but it was still another great Thanksgiving Day for Wilmington players and fans who played a part in the latest edition of an annual rivalry game that is getting close to one century old. The Redmen earned an 18-6 win on the day, but the Wildcats played well against a playoff bound foe. Check out our video coverage of the day, including the sights and sounds on and off the field.

Tewksbury continued its recent success against Wilmington with an 18-6 victory on Thursday morning.
Before they carved their Thanksgiving turkeys, members of the Tewksbury football sliced up rival Wilmington on the gridiron. The Redmen dominated play throughout on Thursday, giving the home crowd at Alumni Stadium very little to be thankful for as they watched the Redmen cruise to an 18-6 victory. “We made a couple mistakes that hurt us, but we kept fighting,” said Wilmington head coach Mike Barry. “But after the sting of this washes away, these guys should be able to hold their heads up high and know they gave it all they had.” The visitors cracked the scoreboard after a lengthy drive midway through the opening quarter, taking a 6-0 edge on a five-yard touchdown run from running back Eddie Matovu. Visiting Tewksbury carved up host Wilmington on Thanksgiving Day, taking home the Turkey Bowl hardware. Though the underdog Wildcats played well defensively, they weren't able to put enough offense together. Wilmington fell, 18-6, in the annual game. For the most part, it’s been a season to forget for the Wilmington football team. But on Thanksgiving Day, all of that could change. Tewksbury visits Alumni Stadium at 10 a.m. on Thursday for the annual Turkey Day game between the bitter rivals that have been squaring off for more than 80 years. “Our record is not where we want it to be, but they’re trying to go out on a good note,” said Wilmington head coach Mike Barry, whose team struggled to a 2-8 record on the year. “Because of the struggles we’ve had, the game means a little bit more this year.” The Redmen, meanwhile, enter the game tuning up for a postseason appearance. Tewksbury senior quarterback Kevin Saunders picked the perfect day to come up with the best performance of his career, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for a third as the Redmen came from behind to beat Wilmington, 28-21 in a Thanksgiving Day thriller at Doucette Field Thursday morning. Saunders scored on runs of 56 and 40 yards, then found senior wide receiver Frankie McLaughlin wide open near the goal line on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 1:31 to play in the game, setting off a wild celebration on the Tewksbury sidelines.
