Do you ever wonder what your neighbors are thinking? Well, here at Patch we love to hear what people in Wilmington are thinking. Today, in honor of Thanksgiving, we thought it would be fun to talk to a few residents and share what, exactly, they are thankful for this year. For many people here in town, family tops the list when it comes to Thanksgiving. Eileen Mota sums it up in one sentence, “I am thankful for my beautiful daughter's and my amazing husband.” Former resident Patty Buckley Hersey added, “I am thankful for my two children. Happy Thanksgiving! Schools, banks, Wilmington Town Hall, the post office, Wilmington Memorial Library and most retail stores are closed on Thursday in honor of Turkey Day. This week, there is plenty to be thankful for. For a pair of Wilmington business owners, a boost in business before Thanksgiving is one of those things. Melissa Elia of Elia’s Country Store and John Lucci of Lucci’s Supermarket both said Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest times of the year as customers flock to fill their tables with last minute needs. “The place is extremely busy this week,” said Lucci, whose store includes Susan’s Kitchen where customers can purchase homemade dishes that are ready to eat. “I think what’s different now compared to a few years ago is that we sell a lot more prepared foods. Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.
The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. A group of volunteers hosted a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday on Deming Way organized by the Wilmington Police Patrol Officers Union.
Thanksgiving isn’t officially until Thursday. But on Saturday, residents of Deming Way were plenty thankful for members of the Wilmington Police Patrol Officers Union and other volunteers. Union members continued an annual tradition that has gone on for nearly a decade when they invited Deming Way residents to the community room and served them a fresh turkey dinner with all the fixings. “Let’s face it. The people are down here because they are not wealthy.
