Despite Setback, Mikey Murphy and Family Keep Fighting

The Wilmington teenager was forced into a trip back to the hospital after he became ill last week.

The Murphy family knew it wasn't going to be an easy road when they brought Mikey home this fall. But over the weekend, the already difficult journey included yet another detour. Mikey, the Wilmington teenager who two summers ago collapsed unexpectedly, was admitted to Children's Hosptial ar about 2 a.m. on Friday morning with a high heart rate and low oxygen, according to his mother Cindy. Cindy also said in a social media post that doctors diagnosed Mikey with psneumonia, but he is continuing to fight to get healthy and return home. Mikey Murphy Prepared to Move Back Home

After more than one year in hospitals, the Wilmington teenager will be able to move back into his home and live with his family.

Mike Murphy doesn’t know how to perform a cartwheel. But with the excitement of his son, Mikey, coming home after more than a year living in hospitals, he’s willing to learn. After collapsing on his way to the Bruins Stanley Cup parade more than one year ago, Mikey has only been allowed home for a handful of visits, the first which came on Father’s Day. But on September 10 the Wilmington teenager will return home permanently and continue to receive round the clock care. “It was probably the best news I’ve heard in years. After a nightmare year at times, Sunday was a dream come true for the Murphy family. Mikey Murphy, the Wilmington teen who collapsed last June while walking to meet friends for the Stanley Cup parade, returned to his home on Sunday for the first time since his collapse. Monday marks the one-year anniversary of Mikey’s collapse, and he has been in the hospital unable to walk or talk ever since. Wilmington Teen Fighting for His Life After Mysterious Collapse

Mikey Murphy's family is overwhelmed by the support they've received from the community.

By all accounts, Mikey Murphy is a good-natured, outgoing and loving 14-year-old. But right now, he’s ready to fight. On June 18, Mikey was walking across the field behind Town Hall to meet up with his friends to attend the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup parade. That’s when life changed for Mikey, his friends and family, and that’s when Mikey started the fight for his life. Mikey’s friends found him face down on the ground, and no one knows how long he was there for.
