Playoff Brackets Revealed for Wildcat Teams

The Wilmington High School girls basketball and boys hockey teams are hoping to make deep postseason runs, beginning this week.

Crunch time has officially arrived for Wilmington High School teams. The postseason begins this week. Of the winter teams, just the boys hockey and girls basketball teams remain. And each will be in action in the upcoming days. Wildcats Seek Repeat Success Defending champion Wilmington wasn't selected to play in the Super 8, but instead will open its Division 2 boys hockey title defense with a game against Stoneham on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The game will take take place in Woburn and with a win, head coach Steve Scanlon's charges would take on Boston Latin or North Reading on Friday night in the quarterfinals. Final Week of Regular Season Arrives for Wildcats

Several Wilmington teams are in action as the season ends this week for the majority of Wildcat squads.

It's safe to say the postseason is on the horizon. Just one week of regular season contests remaining before the playoffs begin for a pair of Wildcat teams next week. A pair of Wilmington varsity teams are in action to start February vacation week. The time is yet to be decided, but the girls basketball team holds its final playoff tuneup in Lynn during the final day of action in a tournament hosted by St. Mary's. Also on the day, the boys hockey team looks to bounce back from a closely contested loss to No. 4 Reading as it travels to face Acton-Boxborough beginning at 8 p.m. On Tuesday, the struggling boys basketball team takes on rival Tewksbury. Home Stretch Under Way for Wildcat Teams

Two full weeks of sports are all that remain in the winter regular season.

The postseason is just around the corner for high school teams around the state, and in Wilmington just two weeks of regular season tilts remain. On Monday, the Wildcats have the day off with the exception of the JV boys hockey team which travels to Shawsheen Tech. Tuesday is shaping up to potentially be a memorable one for the girls basketball team. The Lady Wildcats toppled Melrose, 43-39, on Sunday to bring their record to 9-7 on the year. With that win, the team needs one victory to clinch a playoff spot. Last place Wakefield visits town at 7 p.m. on Tuesday on Senior Night for the Lady Wildcats, in a game that also serves as the last to ever be played before the gym is demolished next week. Just Weeks Remain in Regular Season for Winter Teams

Several teams are in action in upcoming days with just about two weeks before the schedule wraps up.

Just over two weeks remain in the regular season for Wilmington High School teams, with a pair of teams getting into crunchtime with their playoff pushes. There are no games this Monday as the week gets underway, but things pick up on Tuesday with basketball action. While it's been an underwhelming season for the boys basketball team, Tuesday will be a night worth celebrating as outgoing Wildcat seniors will be honored in the team's final game in its home gym. Tipoff for the varsity tilt is at 7 p.m. against Watertown, with freshmen and JV games starting at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. On Tuesday the girls basketball team looks to inch closer to a postseason berth, needing three wins it its final six games to make the playoffs. …

Busy Wildcat Week Ahead as Final Month of Season Arrives

As January turns to February, Wilmington sports teams start to wind down their regular season slates.

The regular season is starting to wind down for Wilmington sports teams, with a pair of teams remaining in the thick of the tournament hunt with the postseason just a few weeks away. Steve Scanlon's boys hockey team is already into the playoffs after Saturday's win, and the Wildcats are hoping to finish strong to get into the conversation for Super 8 selection. Jay Keane's girls basketball team started the year 2-6, but has won four straight games since then to pull within range of the 10-win mark that would get them into the playoffs. There are no games on the schedule for Monday, but the week ramps up starting on Tuesday with basketball triple headers. All Wildcat Teams in Action in Upcoming Days

From basketball to hockey, wrestling and track, there's a little bit of everything this week.

After a Monday off from game action, a busy week of Wildcat sports tips off on Tuesday night with some basketball action. The girls basketball team hosts a tripleheader against Watertown on Tuesday with freshmen, JV and varsity games slated for 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Also on Tuesday, the boys basketball team plays Watertown with the same schedule of games, except Joseph Maiella's charges will be on the road. Wednesday is also a busy day for the Wildcats, beginning with a JV boys hockey game at 2:30 p.m. against Stoneham.  At 4:50 p.m. the girls hockey team plays a road tilt against Wakefield while the boys hockey team plays the same opponent at 7:10 p.m. Both track teams are in Woburn on Wednesday with a 5:15 p.m. meet while the …
