After losing the first match of the day, the Wilmington wrestling team won the next three straight matches to secure a 16-4 win over host Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday, Dec. 16.
The Hamilton-Wenham wrestling team got off to a strong start as it hosted Wilmington (3-1, 1-1) on Thursday, Dec. 16, but was unable to overcome the visiting Wildcats who took away a 4-16 victory that included two first period pins. The Generals (0-2, 0-2) were able to win the first match of the day, as Morgan Muschamp jumped out to an 8-1 first period lead en-route to a 16-5 decision over Wilmington's Jeff Goossens at the 152 lb. weight-class. Muschamp controlled the tempo of the match, taking Goossens to the mat four times, earning two near-falls and a two-point reversal. Goossens nearly turned the tables in the early stages of the second period though, earning a near-fall, but Muschamp avoided the potential pin. "[Morgan] wrestled …

Photos from the Thanksgiving Day rivalry game.
After a satisfying season (8-3), the Wilmington Wildcats experienced disappointment on home ground Thanksgiving Day. The big rivalry game against Tewksbury ended with the Redmen on top, winning 26-21. While the Wildcats fought valiantly in the fourth quarter, they lost after a myriad of penalties and turnovers that hindered the team during the earlier part of the game. Dan Vassallo wins the race in 2 hours, 2 minutes and 28 seconds.
Check the standings of the recent Philadelphia Marathon and you'll find a Wilmington-native at the top of the list. Dan Vassallo, a winner of the Ding Driscoll Award and now Reading-resident, ran the race in just 2 hours, 21 minutes and 28 seconds to win—and overcame both an injury and surgery to do so. Less than a year ago, he suffered from a sports hernia so painful that he could barely walk to his company Christmas party, he said. "It affected my hip; it affected my groin – [it] threw everything out of whack," he said. Vassallo said he began to notice the injury in May last year, but powered through it to train for and run a January marathon in Houston, Texas. He called that marathon a bad experience, blaming it on "systematic failure …

The Tewksbury and Wilmington Thanksgiving rivalry dates back over 75 years with Tewksbury holding the lead in the games played with a 42-29-7 all-time record. "The rivalry goes back a long way, there's a lot of emotional connection in this game," said Wilmington High School's Head Football Coach Mike Barry. "We have a lot of fathers that played in the games before, brothers who played, and a lot of family members who live in Tewksbury too." Wilmington defeated the Redmen 34-22 on Thanksgiving in Tewksbury last year. Wilmington has a strong …

Our launch week brought you loads of news on Veterans Day and sports, charitable and entertaining events and more.
This was our launch week and we went "live" on one of the most treasured (and busy) holidays in Wilmington–Veterans Day. We wanted to give you great, visual, coverage of the actual Veterans Day ceremony and exhibit down on the town common, and showcase the Wilmington High School band that was bigger and better than ever. But we also wanted to highlight veterans in our community, like the many veterans who continue their public service after (or during) their military service as firefighters. In addition, we also spotlighted the great work the Local Heroes, Inc. organization has done, and continues to do, for the troops by visiting them for their six-year anniversary meeting, where over 100 boxes were packaged up with …
