A Slice of Wilmington

Travel Team Seeks Commissioners Cup Title

Wilmington Youth Soccer Association's BU10-6 third grade travel team looks to continue dream season this weekend.

For one group of 11 eight- and nine-year-old boys from Wilmington, June 16 and 17 will be dates that they will likely remember forever. Along with head coach Anthony Almeida and assistant coaches Dave Smith and Tim Healey, these talented players have already had a season worth talking about. The spring soccer season is a challenging one and the team proved that it was more than up to the task. The third grade team ended the regular season with eight wins, no losses and one tie. More impressive than that, however, is that fact that the team remained “…

Life in the Mom Lane

One Small Step Is Anything But

One giant leap for baby's physical development.

Late afternoon on Friday, my 10-and-a-half-month-old girl took her first few steps and has been testing her tiny feet out every day since then. I am ecstatic and so is my lower back! Wilmington High Soccer Team Loses in Second Overtime

Malden Catholic moves advances to the Div. 2 quarterfinals.

Wilmington High School Wildcats boys soccer team lost to Malden Catholic Lancers, 1-0, Tuesday night in second overtime. The Lancers now advance to the quarterfinals of the MIAA North Div. 2 tournament. Malden's Nick Annese scored on a low shot that went between the keeper and the near goal post in the 94th minute, ending the game in sudden death and sending his team on to the next round. Tuesday's game was played in messy conditions at Wilmington High School, and both teams struggled to move the ball on the ground. The possession was pretty even through both halves of regulation, which ended in a 0-0 tie. After a scoreless 10 minute overtime, the game moved into a second 10-minute, sudden-death overtime period. Annese was mobbed by his…
