Rocco's Going Purple for Alzheimer's Awareness

The local business is helping raise money by wearing purple and asking for customer donations.

Rocco’s has been a staple in the Wilmington community for decades. But owner Chuck DePasquale wants to make sure the business serves as more than just a place to eat. Employees at the restaurant are spending the weekend holding the “Rocco’s Goes Purple” event, which will help raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease. Beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday, employees are wearing purple shirts and asking customers for donations to help support the cause. DePasquale, who runs events for charity throughout the year, said being an active community participant is a long standing family tradition. “It’s something that my parents did, and that my grandparents did, so it’s a great tradition,” said DePasquale. “It’s the little things…

Shop Locally in Wilmington on Small Business Saturday

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on. American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Wilmington. According to Chuck DePasquale, the owner of Rocco's Restaurant and Bar, staying in town to shop is important for residents to do whenever possible. "Supporting the town is key. Keeping revenue in town versus spending elsewhere is …

What's Open On Thanksgiving Day?

Need to run out for something while you prepare your meal on Thursday? Be sure to check and see our list of what will be open.

Happy Thanksgiving! Schools, banks, Wilmington Town Hall, the post office, Wilmington Memorial Library and most retail stores are closed on Thursday in honor of Turkey Day. But not everything is closed on Thanksgiving in Wilmington. If we have missed any of what's open or closed, please add them in the comments section below. Here is a list of some businesses and whether they are open or closed on Thursday:

Busy Thanksgiving Week Brings Boost to Local Stores

The owners of Lucci's Supermarket and Elia's Country Store said they see plenty of customers during the Thanksgiving rush.

This week, there is plenty to be thankful for. For a pair of Wilmington business owners, a boost in business before Thanksgiving is one of those things. Melissa Elia of Elia’s Country Store and John Lucci of Lucci’s Supermarket both said Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest times of the year as customers flock to fill their tables with last minute needs. “The place is extremely busy this week,” said Lucci, whose store includes Susan’s Kitchen where customers can purchase homemade dishes that are ready to eat. “I think what’s different now compared to a few years ago is that we sell a lot more prepared foods. If you can cook a turkey at home, Susan’s Kitchen can help you out with all of the sides. There’s a big crew back there and they …

What Small Business Would You Open in Town?

With Small Business Saturday approaching, we want to know what small business you would open in Wilmington if given the opportunity.

In advance of Small Business Saturday on November 24, we asked you to play developer last week, and you had plenty of great ideas. "If you could open any small business in town, what would it be and why?" was the question we asked on the Wilmington Patch Facebook page. We received a total of 25 comments, so we want to keep the conversation going. "I would love an indoor sports center for soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, etc. or an outdoor/indoor track with go karts," said Maggie Fusco, who was among our readers to answer the question via social media. "Fun stuff for family and kids to do." Several of the commenters were thinking along the same lines. Multiple suggestions came in for a bakery, and several said they would like something for …

Royal Dynasty Re-Opening Delayed, Owners Remain Upbeat

Though the restaurant won't open as Pacific Grove in November as planned, Victor and May Hui said they are excited to be a part of the Wilmington community.

Wilmington residents have been hungry for information on the opening date of the newly renovated Royal Dynasty restaurant, which will be renamed Pacific Grove. According to the business’ owner, it will be worth the wait. Victor Hui and his wife, May, have run into some delays in construction in fixing their Lowell Street restaurant, but said on Tuesday that they are hopeful to open Pacific Grove’s doors around New Year. When he was before the Board of Selectmen for the first time several months ago as the new owner, Victor said he hoped to have the Chinese restaurant opened with a new Sushi bar at some point in September. Unexpected delays have changed that, but the couple remains excited by the process. They said the most important thing …

I just checked out their luncheon specials. I hope they will incorporate how RD did their combination dinners. I liked that I could order 113. Fried rice and a choice of any 3 items. The China Cuisine has a very limited choices. I have to get something I don't want and not get something I want. I will miss that about RD. Oh well there is always Golden Ginger.   more ›

King Triton Continues Veterans Day Tradition

The Wilmington business will offer free car washes for veterans on Sunday.

Wilmington's King Triton Car Care Center is continuing its annual tradition on Sunday. In honor of Veterans Day, the Main Street business will offer free car washes for veterans on Sunday for a ninth consecutive year. “I don’t know of many other places that give something away for absolutely free on any day,” said general manager Anthony Freniere leading up to last year's event. “We live in a different world now and we feel like members of the military don’t get a fair share of the thanks that they used to.” Veterans can come to the car wash on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to receive their free service. Wilmington's annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Sunday on Town Common. Check back with Wilmington Patch for …
