Mom and Pop store buys and sells merchandise, offers consignment and barter services.
Wilmington has a new "mom and pop" store and the owners are delighted to be in town. Family Treasure Chest, owned by Tom and Lauren Siracusa, opened its doors at 362 Middlesex St. in January. The couple had purchased the business in 2009 when it was known as Children's Treasure Chest on Route 38 in Tewksbury. Ultimately, as they expanded to the offerings of the store, they changed the name and have now relocated to a space they feel is better suited to store's long-term success. "It really was just a matter of rent," said Lauren Siracusa. "We got a really great deal and (the new address) is an excellent location." Family Treasure Chest sells a wide variety of merchandise on consignment. Shoppers can also find bargains on second-hand …

A reader is wondering about a flurry of activity they saw at the vacant former furniture showroom.
Question: What is going on over at the former Dinette World building on Middlesex Ave.? I saw a lot of activity going on there. It looked like wither someone was moving stuff in or moving stuff out. Do you know anything about this? Answer: Actually, we know quite a bit about it. The former home to Dinette World at 353 Middlesex Ave. is one of the largest and highest-profile retail vacancies in Wilmington. but it will soon be vacant no more. Burgess properties recently announced that it had brokered a deal for the 32,676-square foot space to be leased by a Malden-based company called Art of the Event. A fast-growing company, Art of the Event, specializes in the design and production of sets for corporate parties and events throughout the …

New restaurant is located just off Main Street.
There is a new entrant into the highly competitive world of Wilmington roast beef restaurants. Rizzo's Roast Beef & Pizza opened its doors at 3R Church Street on March 18. Owner George Rozopoulas said he has been very pleased with the reception the restaurant has received in the first week. "It's been a grand slam so far," he said. This is the third "Rizzo's" for Rozopoulas. He founded the chain in Peabody and Salem but has since sold the Peabody location. The menu features pizza, calzones, subs, sandwiches, pastas and more for eating in, take out or delivery. Rozopoulas knows his food and service will need to be top-flight to compete with local eateries featuring roast been such as Brothers Roast-Beef & Pizza, Simard's Super Roast Beef, …

With Big Joe's shut down, a few readers wanted to know if Wilmington was losing another popular eatery.
Question: I just found out that Big Joe's closed down and now it looks like Greg's Roast Beef is closed too. I thought the economy was supposed to be getting better. Answer: Fear not, fan of roast beef. Greg's isn't going anywhere. Well, they are, but they aren't leaving Wilmington. Greg's is actually in the middle of a move from their old location at 296 Shawsheen over to 101 Main St. (Route 38), right across from Silver Lake Dental. The ownership of Greg's has not yet set an opening date for the new location. But we'll let you know as soon as they do.

Hess spokesman Dennis Moynihan issued a statement today.
Hess Hess spokesman Dennis Moynihan said Tuesday that reports of closing Hess stores couldn't be further from the truth. "We have absolutely no plans to close any of our stores," said Moynihan in a statement. "We want all of our guests to know it's business as usual at all of our retail stores," he added. "Our commitment to competitive prices and customer services – it will not change. The brand is strong, and it will live long into the future." Moynihan said there are a lot of people interested in that Hess toy truck program, and that will certainly not be going anywhere.
The company will instead focus on oil production and exploration.
Hess has announced it's closing its gas stations, including one in Wilmington, and will focus on “exploration and production,” according to media sources on Monday. Recently, Elliott Management, one of the company’s largest shareholders, "accused the board of ‘poor oversight,’ and said that the company’s management was responsible for more than a ‘decade of failures,’” reported the Associated Press. The closings will include the Hess Station at 273 Main St., Wilmington. Many of the stations are owned by Hess rather than franchises, reported AP. No timetable has been announced for the closings.
