Looking for something different to make for an upcoming party? Try this sweet and tangy Asian Coleslaw.
Trying to think of something different to bring to Girls Day is a daunting task. You want to make a dish that will go along with what everyone else is bringing, something that is tasty but not over the top. Oh the stress of it all! Seriously though, last time I brought my Mac and Cheese Bites and those went over well but this week I wanted to make something completely different. I went in search of a side dish recipe online, not having anything in particular in mind. A few different salads looked good, but I settled on cole slaw. There are a ton of recipes for Asian Slaw so I ended up taking ideas from a few different ones and then throwing my own touches in. I was pretty happy with the result! I hope the girls are too. Asian Coleslaw …

This potato side dish is cheesy, warm and satisfying. It can also be easily altered to a lower fat version.
“People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas.” ~Unknown Well, here we find ourselves about to welcome in another year. Like most people I cannot believe how fast 2012 went by and I look forward to a new year full of possibilities, new experiences and of course, food. I am excited to try lots of new recipes and share them with you. This is a recipe I found on Pinterest and my family really enjoyed-moreso the second time around. I changed a few things (less sour cream, different cheese, more topping). I think some bacon would be great in this also. Enjoy! Cheesy Potato Casserole Ingredients: Instructions: This recipe can…

An inexpensive cut of beef becomes a new favorite with just the right marinade and a savory mushroom side.
"When you're on the Queen Catherine, don't let 'em give you any of that flank steak crap. You know what I mean? Try the London Broil." ~Quote from Cabin Boy I have been trying to tighten our budget for awhile now and that has included trimming back everything from the cable bill to the grocery tab, the latter being the toughest. I read blogs written by thrifty ladies who somehow manage to spend a paltry fifty dollars a week to feed a family of five. I'm not talking about hot dogs and cans of beans for dinner either; these ladies make healthy meals with fresh veggies every day. I have yet to get anywhere in the vicinity of fifty dollars a week for groceries but I have been able to cut it back a bit. One thing I've done recently is to switch…

Think you don't like cauliflower? Think again, after trying this easy and tasty recipe.
"Green Eggs and Ham was the story of my life. I wouldn't eat a thing when I was a kid, but Dr. Seuss inspired me to try cauliflower!" ~Jim Carrey During our vacation last week there was a lot of talk about food. I suppose that is to be expected when you put four people who love to cook in a house with a gourmet kitchen. The house had an AGA stove. Have you heard of an AGA stove? No? Neither had we. This stove is always running and has four separate ovens that vary in temperature along with two hot plates on top that are also always heated. Though there was a bit of a learning curve for us when we first arrived, by mid week we were in all madly in love with AGA and wanted one of our own. (Though at the cost of 10 grand I don't see her in …

Looking for an easy and inexpensive side dish? Try making these crispy potato wedges.
"What I say is that, if a fellow really likes potatoes, he must be a pretty decent sort of fellow." ~A.A. Milne For the past couple of weeks the supermarket has offered a 5 lb. bag of potatoes free with the purchase of a roast. Since I was planning on buying a roast anyway (and I am not one to turn down a deal), I put the potatoes in my carriage and happily went on my way. Then when I got home and saw last week's 5 lb. bag I realized that I had better figure out a new way to cook these spuds (besides my usual mashed and baked). Ten pounds of potatoes is a lot of potatoes. If you have read my column before then you know that there is one particular word to describe what I look for in a recipe: Easy. This recipe definitely fits into that …
