Town Manager Jeffrey Hull announced the promotion of two members of the Wilmington Police Department, at the April 8 Board of Selectmen's meeting. Detective Davd Sugrue has been promoted to the rank of Sargeant and Sgt. Daniel Murray has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Both promotions took effect April 8. According to Hall, Murray was one of four candidates seeking the lieutenant position. He was the high scorer in the exam and the high scorer in the interview phase. Sugrue, who has been with the department since 1985, was one of four candidates seeking the sargeant position. He tied for second top score on the exam and was the top scorer in the interview phase. Elderly resident injured in accident outside King Street home.
A 74-year-old man sustained serious injuries Thursday afternoon in a freak accident outside a King Street home. The victim, was working on an old farm tractor in the driveway at 36 King St., when he somehow became pinned under one of the vehicle's wheels, according to a Wilmington Police Department spokesperson. The 911 call reporting the accident came in at 2:03 p.m., although it was not immediately clear who made the call. Wilmington Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel responded to the scene. Given the extent of the man's injuries, a Med-Flight helicopter was immediate requested. A task force of Massachusetts law enforcement agencies is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a bank robber allegedly responsible for seven armed bank robberies in northeastern Massachusetts since February. The “Merrimack Valley Bandit” is considered armed and dangerous. During each of the robberies, the robber used a small handgun and pointed it at the tellers. In some of the robberies, the robber threatened to harm the tellers should they not comply with his commands. Suspect allegedly stabbed a man while trying to steal several I-Phones.
A 36-year-old Tewksbury man is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly trying to steal several I-Phones at knifepoint and stabbing the victim during the robbery. The Office of Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone announced last week that Brian Saber, 36, of 33 Bay State Ave., was indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Saber is due to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on April 4. According to Wilmington Police reports, the alleged crimes stemmed from a Craig's List sale gone bad. The victim told police he had purchased five I-phones on Ebay and was looking to sell them on Craig's List for $690 each. He said Saber contacted him by phone and said he…
