Mikey Murphy Prepared to Move Back Home

After more than one year in hospitals, the Wilmington teenager will be able to move back into his home and live with his family.

Mike Murphy doesn’t know how to perform a cartwheel. But with the excitement of his son, Mikey, coming home after more than a year living in hospitals, he’s willing to learn. After collapsing on his way to the Bruins Stanley Cup parade more than one year ago, Mikey has only been allowed home for a handful of visits, the first which came on Father’s Day. But on September 10 the Wilmington teenager will return home permanently and continue to receive round the clock care. “It was probably the best news I’ve heard in years. It overtook me,” said Mike Murphy. “This is my dream come true and has been since this happened. All I wanted to do was have him home. When he gets home I’ll be doing cartwheels, though I don’t know if I can complete one…

Mikey's Visit Makes for Memorable Father's Day [VIDEO]

Wilmington teenager Mikey Murphy, who unexpectedly collapsed in 2011, arrived at his home for the first time after a year-long hospital stay.

After a nightmare year at times, Sunday was a dream come true for the Murphy family. Mikey Murphy, the Wilmington teen who collapsed last June while walking to meet friends for the Stanley Cup parade, returned to his home on Sunday for the first time since his collapse. Monday marks the one-year anniversary of Mikey’s collapse, and he has been in the hospital unable to walk or talk ever since. On Father’s Day, hospital van delivered him to his home and awaiting family for a three-day visit. “It almost doesn’t feel real. That’s how much I miss him,” said Mikey’s 14-year-old sister Kristina. “It’s special to me to have him home. When he wasn’t here, it felt like I didn’t have him around.
