On the eve of the WCTV Candidate's Forum, Chairman Michael Newhouse kicks Kevin MacDonald out of a Selectmen's meeting ... again.
(Editor's Note: An incorrect time for tonight's candidates' forum was originally published in this article. It has since been corrected. We apologize for the confuson.) If Monday night was a warm-up act, Wilmington residents will want to tune in tonight for the Main Event. Halfway through the Board of Selectmen's meeting at Town Hall, fireworks erupted again between Chairman Michael Newhouse and resident Kevin MacDonald, a candidate for one of the two seats up for grab on the board at the April 30 Municipal Election. The flare up resulted in Newhouse kicking MacDonald out of a selectmen's meeting for the third time in the past several weeks. Trouble began when MacDonald tried to ask questions of Joe Martiniello and a representative of the …

Results of Yentile Farm Survey are revealed.
While the new high school building project will cost more because of several lawsuits and appeals, it is still projected to come in under budget. Michael Newhouse, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, told fellow board members at the Feb. 11 meeting that delays in the project would likely tack on an estimated $1.5 million to the overall cost. Included in that is an extra $458,000 in the cost of steel. However, Newhouse said the additional costs have been offset by prudent decisions. These include going with "non-trade" bids for construction, foundation and demolition, according to Newhouse. He also explained that taking an "at-risk" approach to the project resulted in an additional several hundred thousand dollars reimbursement by the state…

Wilmington Board of Selectmen chairman Michael Newhouse said he believes high school decision could be this week, but he wouldn't be surprised at a longer wait.
Though parties on opposing sides of the high school appeal may not see eye to eye, they currently have one thing in common. Both sides remain anxiously awaiting a decision by the Department of Environmental Protection. Town officials said at the end of June that they expected a decision from the DEP within days. Nearly two weeks later, no verdict has been made. “Our consultants are in communication with DEP on a regular basis,” said Newhouse. “We’re still left with the impression that the decision is forthcoming. I think it could be any day, but nobody has promised us that with any certainty. It wouldn’t surprise me if a decision came this week, but if we don’t hear by then I also wouldn’t be shocked.” DEP officials asked the town for …

After mid-meeting swap, Lou Cimaglia gives up seat for Michael Newhouse after two-year stint.
Michael Newhouse has a new seat, and the Wilmington Board of Selectmen has a new chair. Following a brief discussion, board members voted for Newhouse to take over as chairman for Lou Cimaglia at Monday’s meeting. Newhouse went to work immediately as he and Cimaglia switched spots at the table midway through the agenda. “I believe that anyone on this board could do a wonderful job as chairman,” said Cimaglia as he opened the nomination process. “The next year is an extremely important year. We will hopefully be breaking ground on a new high school, purchasing property, and appointing a new Town Manager. I believe, with no disrespect to anyone on the board, that Mike Newhouse would be a worthy candidate for chairman.” Cimaglia said Newhouse…

Mr. MacDonald, I can't believe you have the gall to insult the medical and medical research professions as though they might not potentially save your life one day. To not believe there is a cure out there for cancer and many other incurable, physically or mentally-incapacitating diseases, chronic conditions, and syndromes is just... unbelievable. There are no other fathomable words to describe …   more ›
