Wilmington and Andover first responders have been responding to a serious incident near the Andover/Wilmington/North Reading border.
UPDATE 12:07 a.m. State Police are indicating that the exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined and remains under investigation. UPDATE 9:51 p.m. There is at least one confirmed fatality from the head-on crash according to the Eagle Tribune. Wilmington Patch will have more information as it becomes available. Wilmington Patch has learned that early on Saturday morning, Massachusetts State Police spotted a vehicle travelling north on I-93 near Concord Street travelling approximately 110 mph. While cruisers did not pursue the vehicle initially, they were able to catch up around the area of the exit for Rte. 62 heading into Wilmington and North Reading. A tow truck was sent for the vehicle, the driver is in custody. Wilmington Patch will have more on this story as it becomes available.

Traffic continues to be backed up following the Tuesday morning rollover.
A Tuesday morning crash that injured a truck driver backed up traffic for miles on I-93 North. As of about noon, crews were still working in the area to clean up following the rollover accident. According to reports, the vehicle was carrying trash and when it rolled over debris was spread across the roadway. Just one lane was open to traffic following the crash, causing significant delays.
According to scanner reports, an accident on Tuesday morning has closed three lanes of the busy road.
Updated at 1:22 p.m.: The Massachuetts Department of Transportation tweeted at 1:15 p.m. that the accident scene has been cleared and all lanes on I-93 North are now open for traffic. Updated at 11:19 a.m.: Massachusetts State Police have released an update on the accident, and said traffic will be impacted for "some time." "Three lanes and the breakdown lane have been closed," the release said. "The operator of the truck has sustained some injuries and will need to be extricated from the cab. The extent of the injuries are not entirely known but not expected to be fatal." Before Hurricane Sandy's full scope of devastation in New York and New Jersey was even known, 25 men and women from the Massachusetts State Police were on their way to assist those who had been displaced from their homes. Troopers from all over New England want to help local drivers stay safe and prevent crashes during the holiday season.
The holidays are upon us, and many residents will be traveling this week to see family and friends all across New England. State Police are doing their part to help ensure these visits don't end in tragedy because of impaired or distracted driving. The Massachusetts State Police joined forces with other New England State Police divisions at headquarters in Framingham to explain their C.A.R.E program. Increased patrols this week will be cracking down on impaired/drunk driving, texting while driving and seatbelt law violations, among other things. The State Police have announced increased patrols in light of Andover's fatal accident.
In light of a crash in Andover that killed an elderly couple last week, the State Police Barracks will be focusing on Route 125 immediately. In a press release sent Thursday, State Police said effective immediately, they will be directing a selective enforcement patrol to focus exclusively on Route 125 through Wilmington, Andover, and North Andover. "This action is being taken in the interest of public safety in response to traffic concerns raised by community members," the release said. Wilmington may see 1-3 inches of snow before sleet moves in.
Editor's note: The following information comes from a Massachusetts State Police advisory. Wilmington could get some snow tonight, with pockets of late freezing rain possible, according to the National Weather Service. The town is likely to see somewhere from 1-3 inches of snow before the sleet moves in. State Police investigating possible jump after woman landed in left travel lane.
A 32-year-old woman was air lifted out of Wilmington after she fell from the overpass above I-93 South and landed in the travel lane. Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Andover were called to the scene at 3:50 a.m., where the pedestrian suffered serious injuries after the fall from Route 62. According to police, unidentified good samaritans called 911 and pulled the woman off of the roadway to prevent further injuries. "Troopers are looking into the possibility that the victim could have jumped from the overpass," police said in a press release. "We will not be releasing any more information on the victim." Massachusetts State Police offers driving tips.
This is no trick, and it's certainly no treat. On the weekend before Halloween, Wilmington may be hit with at least six inches of snow, starting Saturday night and rolling into Sunday morning. As a result, Massachusetts State Police have offered the following tips for driving in hazardous conditions. While this may seem like obvious advice, there were still several accidents, including one double fatality in Northampton, due to poor road conditions on Friday. So be sure to drive safely if you have to be on the road this weekend, and follow the following advice, courtesy of MSP.
