Variety of Wilmington Little League teams hold their own against stiff competition.
Though the town's Little League season is over, the summer went on longer for several Wilmington teams. All-Star season continued on Sunday for a trio of teams as Rotary Park played host to three tilts throughout the day. First at 10 a.m., the AA All-Stars took on their AAA opponents. Though the young players do not travel, they were selected for the squad based on their season performance. The AA roster included Rockies players Jared Venezia, Nolan Ricci, Kyle Monroe; Brewers players Jake Danieli, Keith MacDonald, Rich Stuart; D-Backs players Sean Kelley, Jake Arsenault, Tristan Ciampa; and Cubs players Ryan Martin, Eric Nesline, and Jason Marquard. For the AAA side the roster included Royals players Stephen Bowker, Tucker Bryne, Tim …

As much as you want to yell at the top of your lungs, sometimes the time just isn't right for it.
We have been waiting months, but spring is finally here and that means that baseball is in full swing. The Opening Day festivities are behind us and, from here on in, weekends and evenings will be filled with baseball. I’ll admit it. I am a die hard, tried and true baseball fan. I have spent my whole life cheering on the Red Sox and, no, I’m not the least bit quiet about it. There is no way for me to deny it. I am a loud, exuberant and, sometimes, obnoxious baseball fan. I fear that my neighbors, and those who have sat next to me at Fenway Park, can confirm it. I’m not very good at holding back. Not really a terrible flaw. I love my team and I show it. Problem is, however, what happens when it is Little League and not the MLB that I’m …

Saturday's festivities kicked off the season for local baseball players and coaches.
Wilmington Little League players, coaches and parents kicked off the season in style on Saturday during the town's annual Opening Day parade and ceremony. Participants marched from Town Common and filed into Rotary Park, where local officials talked about the excitement of baseball season. "Enjoy every day you're on this field," said Board of Selectmen chairman Lou Cimaglia. "It goes by quick. These are memories that will last a lifetime." The Wilmington High School boys hockey team, fresh off its Division 2 state championship win, also participated in the festivities. Throwing out the ceremonial first pitches were a pair of United States Army veterans. Bill Savosik, a Vietnam veteran, and Charles Coleman, who recently returned from …

Wilmington Little League players can sign up Saturday.
There's plenty of snow to come and go before baseball season gets underway. But that doesn't mean it's too early to think about getting the kids out on the diamond. Wilmington Little League and Youth Softball has just two walk-in registration days for the 2012 season, and one is this Saturday from 4-6 p.m. in the 4th of July Building. In addition, registration is currently open online, where parents can pay by credit card at the Wilmington Little League website. Anyone signing up who wants to pay by check must register at the site by adding each participant to their shopping cart, but do not click "Check out." Following that part of the process, you can then view the total owed and drop off the cash or check in the express lane during the …

I agree, it gives me great pleasure watching my son play any sports! In his age bracket (8) I tend to still cheer on both teams, although this does not sit well with my son, I will always say to him...."I show sportsmenship for both team", winning isn't everything, it's all about having fun!   more ›
