Residents had sought to have Town Meeting voters approve the sale of town-owned parcels.
Cancel any plans you might have had for a big Wilmington land auction. Residents had placed five articles dealing with town-owned land on the May 4 Annual Town Meeting Warrant by citizens' petition. Each of them asked town meeting voters to give the town permission to sell these particular parcels. However, in order for that to happen, the town first needs to declare those parcels to be "surplus" properties. The responsibility for determining if a town-owned parcel is surplus belongs to Town Manager Jeffrey Hull. In the case of these five parcels, he determined that only one, the parcel mentioned in Article 33, to be surplus. As a result, Articles 29, 30, 31 and 37 are moot and will therefore likely be passed over at Town Meeting. Hull …

Wilmington voters to decide on moratorium at upcoming Town Meeting.
Wilmington town officials are not discouraged by a ruling by Attorney General Martha Coakley this week that said Massachusetts communities cannot ban medical marijuana distribution centers. In her ruling, Coakley struck down a Wakefield bylaw that would have completely and permanently banned such centers from the town. However, Coakley did uphold a Burlington bylaw that placed a moratorium on medical marijuana distribution centers until that town can complete an examination of zoning issues, according to an article appearing on Boston.com. The second part of the ruling is what has Wilmington officials smiling. An article on the warrant for the Annual Town Meeting in May, calls for a moratorium similar to that in Burlington. "We had …

Results of Yentile Farm Survey are revealed.
While the new high school building project will cost more because of several lawsuits and appeals, it is still projected to come in under budget. Michael Newhouse, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, told fellow board members at the Feb. 11 meeting that delays in the project would likely tack on an estimated $1.5 million to the overall cost. Included in that is an extra $458,000 in the cost of steel. However, Newhouse said the additional costs have been offset by prudent decisions. These include going with "non-trade" bids for construction, foundation and demolition, according to Newhouse. He also explained that taking an "at-risk" approach to the project resulted in an additional several hundred thousand dollars reimbursement by the state…

With Assistant Town Manager Jeff Hull as leading candidate, process will likely heat up on Tuesday.
The Board of Selectmen expressed unanimous support for Jeff Hull as Wilmington’s next Town Manager during a March meeting. So when might the town take the next step towards hiring Hull as Michael Caira’s replacement? According to Board of Selectmen chairman Michael Newhouse, the hiring process will kick up again soon. “What I heard from the board at (the March) meeting is interest in giving Jeff Hull every consideration to fill the vacancy left by Mike Caria,” said Newhouse. “It is my intention to schedule an appointment with Jeff at our next meeting. We’ll be able to hear from him, get his feedback, and go from there.” The next schedule Board of Selectmen meeting is on the docket for Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Town Hall, Room 9. Hull was hired …

In letter to Board of Selectmen, Assistant Town Manager Jeffrey Hull tells members he'd welcome consideration for promotion.
Interest in Jeffrey Hull becoming the next Town Manager is officially mutual. The Board of Selectmen unanimously voiced its support for Hull, the current Assistant Town Manager, at a meeting two weeks ago. On Monday, Town Manager Michael Caira read a letter to members dated March 27 that expressed Hull's interest in replacing Caira, who is retiring this fall. "It has been an honor and a privilege to work for the Town of Wilmington for the past 24 plus years," wrote Hull. "I am very much interested in the potential opportunity to serve as the next Town Manager. I am available to meet with the Board at its convenience to discuss this position and answer any questions." Michael Newhouse, who is leading discussion of the selection process …

Assistant Town Manager Jeffrey Hull will be invited to discuss interested in replacing Michael Caira, likely at next Board of Selectmen meeting.
It didn’t take long for a frontrunner to surface in the search for Michael Caira’s replacement as Wilmington Town Manager. The four members involved in discussion at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting all voiced their support for Jeffrey Hull, the current Assistant Town Manager. Chairman Lou Cimaglia sat out of debate since he is a town employee. “For me to talk about any process that may involve a nationwide search, I think it would be disingenuous,” said Michael Newhouse, who led the discussion in Cimaglia’s absence. “I understand the idea of having a search process, but I think it would be going through a dog and pony show that from my perspective we don’t need to go through. We could open the search to anybody and everybody. At …

Some ELECTED Candidates for Office in Wilmington BRAG about how many terms they have served. Other Towns like Concord and Lexington respect that 2 terms is an Honor especially around PATRIOTS DAY. If the leaders could focus on Cancer, Water Quality, Ethics Compliance and Remediation of the Oil at the High School it would be a great start. 4 MAJOR ISUUES that will be addressed over time.
