Police Investigating Overnight Hit and Run on Pedestrian

Anyone who may have witnessed anything during the early morning incident

Wilmington Police are seeking the public's help for any information involving an early morning hit and run on Ballardvale Street that left a man hospitalized. According to Police Lt. Brian Pupa, a call came in just after 3 a.m. on Tuesday when passing truck drivers located an injured man on the side of the road. Pupa said police believe a 28-year-old man may have run out of gas on I-93 and was walking towards the industrial area of town in an effort to find a gas station when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The man was transported to Lahey Clinic with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. "We have no description and no witnesses," said Pupa. Hit and Run Reported on Salem Street

According to scanner reports, the incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday night.

According to various scanner reports, a hit and run occurred on Salem Street on Saturday night, but there were no serious injuries. Details are not completely clear at this time, but at about 8:45 p.m., an initial report came in that a driver struck a bicyclist on Salem Street, then exited the vehicle and assaulted the victim before leaving the scene. A Wilmington Police source told Patch that there were no serious injuries following the collision. The vehicle in question reportedly was a gray Oldsmobile that fled the scene towards Tewksbury. One reader on the Wilmington Patch Facebook page said that she drove past the scene and saw police and paramedics checking out a man standing on the side of the road who she believe was the byciclist…

UPDATED: Wilmington Motorcyclist Struck by North Andover Woman

The driver of a black Mercedes allegedly fled the scene.

Editor's Note: The following story was updated at 7:30 p.m. with the names of the drivers involved in this afternoon's collision in Andover. State Police located the operator of a black Mercedes that was involved in a hit and run accident with a motorcycle driven by a Wilmington man on Route 125 in Andover today. State Police spokesman Trooper Sean Murphy said that the motocyclist, 22-year-old Adam Schainost of Wilmington, was seriously injured in the incident that occurred on Route 125 near Route 28 around 3:15 p.m. Murphy said that police believe that the Mercedes, driven by 66-year-old North Andover resident Jinhi Kim, was traveling north on Route 125 when she swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with the motorcyclist. Wildlife Officials: Watch Out For Deer

Be careful while driving around town during dawn and dusk.

State and local officials are urging drivers in suburban areas to keep an eye out for deer this fall as mating season pushes more animals into contact with humans, increasing the likelihood of dangerous collisions. In Wilmington, animal control officer Ellen Sawyer has received numerous reports of deer-related incidents in the last month, many involving the bodies of dead deer lying on the side of the road. "They like to jump in front of cars," said Sawyer, "especially at dawn and dusk. If you hit one, they could go through your windshield, you could break their legs or kill them.
