Wilmington High School's Class of 2012 wouldn't let an indoor ceremony ruin the excitement of the big day.

Mother Nature moved the Wilmington High School graduation ceremony into the gym, but it was still a festive day for the Class of 2012 as the school held its graduation ceremony on Sunday afternoon. Due to a soggy field and rain showers in the area, the school was unable to hold the ceremony on the football field as planned. So with a gymnasium full of friends and family, students received their diplomas. The cermeony lasted just over an hour and featured remarks by Superintendent of Schools Joanne Benton, Town Manager Michael Caira, School Committee Chairman Margaret Kane, Principal Eric Tracy and Senior Advisor Marissa Bortone. Wilmington High's Matt Palermo a 'Volunteer Machine'

Graduate of the Class of 2012, who will enlist in the National Guard on Monday, is well-known volunteer in long list of groups.

Lou Cimaglia got a chance last week to see just what makes Matt Palermo so special. The Wilmington Veterans’ Agent brought Palermo to the Military Friends Foundation’s Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner at the Hampshire House. Palermo, a senior who graduated on Sunday with the Class of 2012, had the opportunity to meet Colman Nee, Secretary of the Department of Veterans Services, and retired Brigadier General Thomas Sellars. With the evening’s event wrapped up, Cimaglia figured it was time to hit the road back to Wilmington. But Palermo had one more stop to make. He wanted to talk to the people in charge of the Military Friends Foundation to find out just what he could do to help. “That’s the kind of kid he is,” said Cimaglia, who got to …

I have a young son also and I hope that he turns out to be like Matt, good job!   more ›

Class of 2012 Prepares for Graduation, Rain or Shine

Wilmington High School holds its graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

UPDATE: Sunday's Wilmington High School graduation will be held inside the gymnasium instead of on the football field. Due to a smaller capacity at the indoor ceremony, students will have a limited number of tickets for friends and family to attend graduation. Principal Eric Tracy tweeted the following: "Unfortunately wet ground, wet stands and the possibility of chairs and stage sinking in the ground are problems. Sorry guys!" ORIGINAL STORY: Eric Tracy doesn’t seem much like the dancing type. But for this year’s graduating class, the Wilmington High School principal is willing to show off a step or two. The Class of 2012 is set to graduate on Sunday at 2 p.m. But where the ceremony takes place depends on the forecast, which includes a 50…

Four Wilmington residents celebrate graduation from Arlington Catholic High School.

Editor's Note: The following information was provided by Arlington Catholic High School. Wilmington resident Michael Brent was the recipient of the 2012 Male Scholar Athlete Award.
