PHOTOS: Lady Wildcats Fall to Visiting Burlington

Despite a strong effort on Saturday at Ristuccia Arena, the Wilmington girls hockey team lost to the Red Devils, 6-4.

Though the Wilmington girls hockey team played well for much of Saturday's tilt against visiting Burlington, it wasn't enough for the Lady Wildcats who fell to the Red Devils, 6-4. Burlington hopped out to a 3-0 edge before Adrianna Kippenberger cracked the scoreboard for the first Wilmington goal. But the Red Devils dropped to 3-8 on the season with their second straight setback. The Lady Wildcats, however, did win three of four games prior to their latest skid.

Despite difficult season, Lady Wildcats are showing signs of life.

There have been positives in recent games for the Wilmington High School girls hockey team, even after another setback on Saturday against Arlington. The Lady Wildcats dropped a 6-0 decision at Ristuccia Arena in their most recent tilt, but played well in the third period and didn't allow a goal in the final frame until late. On January 14 the team earned its only win of the year, a 4-1 victory over host Peabody. The team is 1-11 on the year and in last place in Middlesex League play.

Watertown thumps girls hockey, 9-2.

Joe McMahon's girls hockey team had just fallen, 9-2, on Saturday and remains in search for its first victory of the season. But you wouldn't know that watching the Wilmington High School mentor shaking every one of his player's hands as he laughed and joked with each as they passed him on their way out of Ristuccia Arena. The Lady Wildcats snagged the first goal of the game when Ryan Gautreau connected with 8:58 remaining in the opening period. With 3:36 to play in the game, Chloe Castellano tallied a marker of her own, but in between those scores it was Watertown dominating play to improve its record to 4-1-1 on the season.
