In the first period of last Sunday's win, Wilmington goalie Drew Foley gloved a seemingly certain Franklin goal, and WCTV's video shows just how great of a save it was.
The save was so big that even Wilmington High School boys hockey players and coaches thought it was in the net. A week later it's still hard to fathom just how Drew Foley plucked the puck out of the air and made a game-altering save, even when watching the video. To reset the scene: It was a scorless game with 8:43 left in the first period and Foley made the initial save on a Panther shot. The puck got lost in a crowd of skaters, bounced off of Anthony Castellano's skate and found its way to the stick of a Franklin skater who was less than five …

Emily Crannell, a 2012 graduate, and Drew Foley, a current junior, were chosen as the top athletes of the year.
Emily Crannell and Drew Foley have one thing in common. They let their play do the talking. Both Wilmington High School athletes, Crannell a 2012 graduate, are soft spoken, but their performances on the court, ice, and field spoke loudly in the last year. As a result, Crannell and Foley were selected as Patch’s Athletes of the Year. Foley anchored the state championship Wildcat boys hockey team in between the pipes with a 1.72 goals against average, six shutouts and a 92 percent save percentage. He also was a key contributor for the boys soccer team, which reached the North Division 2 semifinal this fall. Crannell, meanwhile, was the standout player for the girls basketball team that reached the North Division 2 semifinal in the winter …

Foley has been a critical piece for the Wildcats, who play Winthrop on Monday at 6 p.m. in the Tsongas Center with a state championship berth on the line. He’s allowed just three goals so far in the playoffs, and let up just 1.65 scores per game during the regular season. “He is the best goalie I’ve ever played with,” said Wilmington junior defenseman Brian Pickett. “Drew doesn’t ever get rattled. Everything you tell …

Back in February, Wilmington High senior Alex Furlong became just the fourth wrestler in the history of the program to be crowned a sectional champion twice when he accomplished that feat this weekend. In addition, he came the program's eighth wrestler to ever crack the 100-win plateau. I hope he was given strong consideration.   more ›
