According to Boston Globe article, Wilmington shop is one of several thriving bookstores in difficult economic times.
Bookstores around the country are struggling due to difficult economic times and the emergence of electronic readers. But in Wilmington and other towns, a different kind of business is thriving. The Book Store Next Door provides an inexpensive way to purchase books and other items, all while benefitting Wilmington Memorial Library. In other towns around Massachusetts, similar stores have developed, a trend featured in a recent Boston Globe article. According to The Globe, The Book Store Next Door is among the most successful in the state with an estimated $1,000 to $1,500 raised per month. A lot happened during the near-two-hour meeting on December 13 at Town Hall.
A lot of ground was covered at the Board of Selectmen meeting last night. Awards were received, noted and discussed, updates to the I-93 Interchange Project were brought up, and plans for future town projects were also noted. Ipods for Wounded Veterans Paul Cardello, co-host and producer for WCTV's Sports Forum, and Wilmington VFW quartermaster Edwin Williams came to the meeting yesterday to present Chairman Selectman Louis Cimaglia with a gift and a citation for his work with veterans. Wilmington one of only three towns to win award from Massachusetts Municipal Association.
Wilmington was one of just three municipalities to win the Kenneth E. Pickard Municipal Innovation Award from the Massachusetts Municipal Association this year, Town Manager Michael Caira announced at the Board of Selectmen meeting last night. The town won the award because of the "unique and creative" Book Store Next Door program. The town-run Book Store Next Door is a volunteer-run, non-profit, used-book store.
