Wilmington Schools Closed Again Monday
Teachers received the call on Sunday afternoon that classes have been cancelled for a second day due to the blizzard.
The snow has stopped, but the Blizzard of 2013 is still having an impact in Wilmington. Word began to spread on Twitter that school has been cancelled, as it was Friday, and at 4:30 p.m. Superintendent of Schools confirmed the news in an e-mail to Patch. Many sidewalks in the town remained filled with snow by weekend's end and many readers have reported that some side roads remain messy. "Storm cleanup is going to continue a few days after the snow stops, but we’ll be working hard to get things back to normal as soon as possible,” Department of Public Works assistant superintendent Jamie Magaldi told Patch on Thursday. Schools have already been closed in towns around the region, including North Reading and Woburn.

Will Mail Be Delivered Today?
The Saturday suspension of mail delivery debate applies to today: but not because of USPS budget problems!
You may be wondering if there'll be any new mail in your Wilmington mailbox today (that is, if you can even make it to your mailbox, with all this snow.) Several readers have asked that question, including Wilmington Patch Facebook follower Diane Cisto Breslin. The answer is that mail service in all of New England — not just Massachusetts — has been suspended, according to the Huffington Post. The ban extends throughout all six New England states. The unusual decision was made due to safety concerns, according to Postal Service spokeswoman Christine Dugas. MBTA Service Suspended Saturday
The transit shutdown that began on Friday afternoon will continue indefinitely.
The now two-day blizzard that has crushed Boston has caused the MBTA to stay shut down through Saturday. “Due to the impacts of a severe winter storm, MBTA service will remain suspended on all modes Saturday, February 9, 2013,” says a post on MBTA.com. MBTA personnel will be clearing tracks in an effort to get the subways, commuter rail trains and buses back up and running. The MBTA does not have an estimate on when service will resume, meaning Wilmington's commuter rail stops will be among those remaining closed until the clean up is completed. Town Offices Close at Noon, RMLD 'Well Prepared' for Snow
Wilmington officials issued a warning to residents while Reading Municipal Light Department representatives said they're "well prepared" for the blizzard.
Wilmington officials announced on Friday morning that all town offices, including Wilmington Memorial Library, will close at noon due to the storm that is officially underway with some falling snow in the area. "Residents are encouraged to remain off the roads during the storm," a press release issued by the town this morning reads. "The first priority for plowing operations will be keeping the roads cleared and safe for emergency operations." The release reminded residents to only call 911 in case of an emergency, and to call (978) 658-5071 in non-emergency situations. It seems that this overreaction by the government and the media has the same effect as political correctness. That is to say it makes us numb to words like "racist" and "dangerous conditions".....so that when we really need to be aware of those problems....we don't hear the warning or care. more ›
