The Elderly Services Department provides services that advocate senior citizen (residents 60-years-old and older) rightsMore and promotes their well-being. The department organizes classes, social events, volunteer programs that benefit the elderly, legal and fuel assistance and a host of other services. Most of these classes and groups meet up at the Buzzell Senior Center that overlooks the Town Common.

The Wilmington Police Department works to protect and serve the community in a number of ways. A team of 48 committedMore men and women, the Wilmington police began in 1872 with the appointment of a special police officer. Today the department has a K-9 unit, a detective bureau and an auxiliary unit. It takes pride in its strong connection with the community's youth and school system. The WPD also offers crime-prevention and safety programs like self-defense classes and CPR as well as animal control services.
