Police Log: Threats, Arrests and a Parking Lot Fight

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Wednesday, May 15, to Friday, May 17. Wednesday, May 15 7:40 a.m.: A one-car motor vehicle rollover was reported on I-93 North with unknown injuries. State Police arrived on scene and handled the accident. 3:22 p.m.: Police received a call about a possible fight in the parking lot at Town Hall between about six youths. Two of the boys left in a vehicle towards Tewksbury. Officers transported two of the youths to the station to fill out a statement. One person was summonsed for intimidation of a witness. 8:21 p.m.: On Fiorenza Drive, a man was allegedly outside threatening residents of a home in the area. Dennis N. Dicenso, 27, of 25 Fiorenza Drive, was arrested and charged …

  This week -- May 19 to 25 -- is National EMS Week and the theme is "EMS: One Mission. One Team." In 1968, President Gerald Ford signed the first EMS Week proclamation, designating a time for the nation to celebrate the emergency medical technician paramedic as well as an opportunity to educate the public about the critical role EMS plays in the community, according to EMS.gov.  May 22 has been designated as Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day, according to emsweekideas.org.  Every day our local, state and national EMS respond to crisis situations. Police Log: Struck in the Head and Breastfeeding While Driving

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Sunday, May 12, to Tuesday, May 14. Sunday, May 12 5:58 a.m.: Dispatch received a call from a Silverhurst Ave. caller who reported that her brother came home from a party, struck himself in the head with a bottle, causing him to bleed. He then fled the area. After pinging his phone, police received a recent location to the involved party. Officers located two men walking on the tracks and confirmed that one of them was the party in question, but both ran from police towards Billerica. Police eventually located the man and Billerica Fire Department transported him to a hospital.  12:04 p.m.: On Salem Street, a caller reported two vehicles were hit with paintballs overnight. …

Police Log: Graffiti and an Unresponsive Teenager

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Saturday, May 11, to Sunday, May 12. Saturday, May 11 12:39 a.m.: A domestic incident was called in on Shawsheen Ave. The male party, who had a laceration to his face, was taken to the station under protective custody. 5:22 a.m.: Officers responded to Wildwood Street where a car crashed into the water. All parties were out of the vehicle uninjured, though there was damage to a telephone pole in the area. 8:48 a.m.: A Winston Ave. resident reported that his garden and fountain were vandalized sometime overnight. Multiple lawn ornaments were destroyed at around 5 p.m. the previous night. 1:34 p.m.: Police located a large amount of graffiti on the Nichols Street bridge. 6:42 p.m…

Wilmington Woman Arrested After Alleged Tewksbury Assault

Mary C. Hobal was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly attacking another woman and her boyfriend.

Wilmington and Tewksbury Police combined to search for and arrest a woman after an alleged attack early Tuesday morning. According to the Tewksbury police log, 911 dispatch received a call from a resident on Oak Street at 12:54 a.m. on Tuesday. The caller told police that another woman entered her home, attacked her and subsequently attacked her boyfriend. Following the alleged attack, the resident said the woman left in a red Jeep and began traveling towards Wilmington, where the caller said she lives. Tewksbury officers were unable to locate the party in question in the area, and called Wilmington Police to check their town. Initially, Wilmington officers went to the woman’s known address, but were unable to locate her. But at 1:56 a.m…

The following is an excerpt from the Wilmington Police log from Thursday, May 9, to Friday, May 10. Thursday, May 9 9:22 a.m.: Officers were requested to Salem Street to keep the peace following a domestic incident earlier in the day between two sisters. 5:48 p.m.: A Pouliot Place resident reported that a car was parked across the street and there was possible drug activity taking place. A man entered a nearby home after the vehicle left the area. Police checked the neighborhood but were unable to locate the car and no one answered at the home. 9:53 p.m.: Police arrested Joshua A. Blackburn, 23, of 22 Pershing Street, on an outstanding warrant. 10:20 p.m.: An employee at CVS reported a female shoplifter. Police stopped the car on Main …

Scenes From the Wilmington High School Mock Accident

Ahead of their prom, Wilmington High School students gathered to watch a mock accident and take a moment to reflect on the dangers of impaired driving.

  Wilmington High School students gathered on Tuesday afternoon to watch a scenario play out in which six of their classmates were involved in a mock car accident precipitated by drunk driving.  One of the students, senior Ling Zhong, was the one fatality of the mock accident. Senior Jack Campbell portrayed the drunk driver in the accident.   Members of the Wilmington Fire Department and Wilmington Police Department also participated in the mock accident, using the jaws of life to accurately demonstrate the actions taken by first responders at the scene of car wreck.

Two Arraigned in Connection With Human Trafficking Enterprise With Wilmington Ties

Xiu J. Chen, 32, of Medford, and Ronald Keplin, 57, of Woburn, were arraigned in Somerville District Court on Tuesday.

  The two individuals arrested Monday in connection with a human trafficking enterprise that spans the borders of several area communities, including Wilmington, were arraigned Tuesday in Somerville District Court, according to a press release from Attorney General Martha Coakley.  Xiu J. Chen, 32, of Medford, and Ronald Keplin, 57, of Woburn, were arraigned on the following charges: Both Chen and Keplin pleaded not guilty to the charges at their arraignment, according to the release. Judge Neil Walker set bail at $250,000 for both Chen and Keplin, with the conditions that they surrender their passports, remain on home confinement and be monitored by a GPS device if they are released on bail, according to the release.  Authorities allege …

National Police Week 2013: Candles Raised for the Fallen

People from around the country take part in a candle-light vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor the fallen including officers from Massachusetts.

  More than 19,000 names of fallen law enforcement officers are etched into the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC -- and more are added every year. The keepers of the police memorial figure one law officer in the United States dies in the line of duty every 57 hours. For this year's ceremony, 321 names were added to that wall. Among them: Middlesex County Correction Officer James Callahan, Sr., who died in 1973 due to a heart attack after being assaulted by an inmate and Woburn Police Officer John P. Gibbons III, who was killed in the line of duty on May 4, 1999. Gibbons suffered a fatal heart attack after being kicked in the chest by a woman while responding to a disturbance call. Monday Human Trafficking Arrests 'A Great Day for Victims'

With the announcement that a Medford woman and Woburn man were arrested for running a prostitution ring, police said Monday was a major victory in shutting down the alleged pattern of "modern day slavery."

Law enforcement officials said Monday that a pair of human trafficking arrests were not only a major victory for police, but also the women at the center of the ring who are considered the victims of “modern day slavery.” During a Monday press conference at the Wilmington Police Department, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced that Xiu J.
