Weekend Agenda: Wildcats Football, Chamber of Commerce Half Marathon/5K and More

Our weekly listing of events happening in Wilmington this weekend.


Each Thursday, we're going to take a look at weekend events coming up in Wilmington and Tewksbury. Did we miss an event? Post it on Patch here, and we'll be sure to include it on our list. 

Friday, Sept. 20

Swing by morning story time at the Wilmington Memorial Library at 10 a.m. to help build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. 

Wilmington Memorial Library will hold a book discussion for children age 9 and older at 3:45 p.m. Snacks are provided! Find out more here.

Are you into steampunk? If so, stop by the Wilmington Memorial Library at 3:30 p.m. and craft your own steampunk bookmark. Don't know what steampunk is? Here's a pretty good definition.

Wildcats varsity football will take on Arlington Catholic High School under the lights at Wilmington High School at 7 p.m. 

Saturday, Sept. 21

Entries in the Discover Wilmington Photography contest are due starting on Saturday. Photos will be judged by the Wilmington Arts Council and entrants have the chance to win $50, $75, or $100. Full rules, details, and the entry form can be found at the Wilmington Memorial Library website or picked up at the library. 

Check out Tewksbury’s 5th Annual Zero Waste Day event, held in the Wynn Middle School parking lot, 1 Griffin Way from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than a dozen local non-profit organizations will be on hand to accept your gently used donations of items ranging from clothing to household goods to bikes to building supplies.  Additionally, fee-based electronics recycling will be available. Sunday, Sept. 22

The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce will host Wilmington's 9th annual half marathon and 5K run or walk this Sunday, Sept. 22. Here are some important times for runners and spectators:

  • 8 a.m.            Registration Tables Open
  • 10:10 a.m.     Shotgun Start For Both Races
  • 11:15 a.m.     5K Awards
  • 12:30 p.m.     Half Awards
The Wilmington Farmers Market will be open on the Swain Green from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. WFM will hold it's first annual Doll Stroller Parade at noon and National Sharpening will be at the market to sharpen any knives you bring. Find out more here.
