WCTV-E is Moving!

     WCTV-E is moving to a new home this spring! After April 17th, WCTV’s educational channel will move from Comcast’s channel 10 to channel 99.  This will make the WCTV channel listings on Comcast channel 9, 99, and 22.  Verizon subscribers will not be affected; WCTV channels will continue to be 37, 38, and 39. 

     Channel 10 will now be occupied by WWDP, a television station which airs home shopping programs.  This move comes as WWDP receives must-carry status by the Federal Communications Commission.  WWDP airs shows from ShopNBC, as well as three hours weekly of mandatory Educational/Informational programming.  WWDP is not affiliated with WCTV in any way; it is owned by ValueVision Media and operates out of Norwell, Massachusetts.

     WCTV-E will continue to run local educational programming on channel 99.  This includes programs from the Wilmington Public School system, such as the WHS Pep Rallies and the Pre-Prom meetings.  WCTV-E also airs shows about Wilmington schools, such as “In the Loop” and WHS athletic programs, like WHS Hockey, Basketball, and Wrestling. Programs that encourage lifelong education and learning, such as “Saturday Playhouse”, “College Roundtable”, and “NASA 360” also broadcast on WCTV-E.  In addition to airing on Comcast’s channel 99, the educational channel will also continue to be located on channel 39 on Verizon, and online at http://vimeo.com/channels/wctve.

      WCTV’s other channels, WCTV-P and WCTV-G will be unaffected by the move. WCTV-P, Wilmington’s Public Access Channel, will continue to air on Comcast’s channel 9 and Verizon’s channel 37, airing favorite Wilmington programs such as “Where’s Wilmington”, “Sports Forum”, “Glitzy Gourmet”, “Stateside Footy”, “Healthy You”, and “Making it in Wilmington”.  WCTV-G, Wilmington’s Government Access Channel, will remain on Comcast’s channel 22 and Verizon’s channel 38, airing School Committee, Board of Selectmen, and Elder Services meetings, along with popular programs such as “Tarr Talk TV”, “What’s Buzzing at the Buzzell”, and “A Conversation with Congressman Tierney”.

     Though WCTV-E’s location may be changing, the content will remain the same.  WCTV will continue to bring the town of Wilmington quality programming by Wilmington residents, for Wilmington residents.  “All PEG [public, educational, governmental] stations are making this move from channel 10 to channel 99,” explains WCTV director Sandra Curtin.  “We hope people follow us to channel 99.” Keep watching WCTV on channels 9, 99, and 22 on Comcast, and 37, 38, and 39 on Verizon.  For more information about WCTV visit www.wctv.org or call (978) 657-4066.
