Wilmington Resident Plans Charity Hoops Tournament

July 22 event will benefit Mike LaVita's team during his participation in the Multiple Sclerosis walk.

Wilmington basketball players will soon have a chance to show off their skills on the court while also raising money for a good cause.

Lifelong resident Mike LaVita announced plans for his third annual three-on-three charity basketball tournament, which will be held on Sunday, July 22, at 10 a.m. on the court at .

Proceeds from the tournament will go to benefit LaVita’s participation in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk. The funds raised go directly to the National MS Society.

LaVita said he has been involved with the walk for several years, participating along with his brother and father, also Wilmington residents. In the last two years, LaVita has raised more than $3,000 for the charity.

According to LaVita, many former Wildcat basketball players participate in the tournament each year, and there is a good balance of fun and competition for participants.
