Touchdown Club Prepares for Sixth Annual Golf Tournament

The fundraiser is slated for Monday, July 30, at Hillview Country Club.

When the Wilmington Touchdown Club was formed in 1998, its main goal was pretty simple. It was, and still is, as their website explains, “a group of parents whose sole purpose is to support the .”

Sure it sounds simple enough, but a lot of hard work and fundraising has gone into the past 14 years and a lot of Wilmington’s athletes have benefited from it.

To date the Wilmington Touchdown Club has funded $17,500 in scholarships. In addition the TDC has been able to contribute football equipment, uniforms, Gatorade for games, host an end of the season football banquet and present memory books to each player.

Finally, as President Elaine MacKinnon explained it’s not just football players who have benefited from the Wilmington Touchdown Club’s efforts, “We purchased an AED for the athletic trainer to have available for all sports. We have purchased and refunded for 3 years the Impact concussion program that has been utilized for every student athlete at the High School.”

All this, however, doesn’t come easily and the members of the Touchdown Club dedicate their time to fundraising throughout the year, not just during football season.

On Monday, July 30, Wilmington Touchdown Club will host its main fundraising event of the year, their 6th Annual Golf Tournament at The Hillview Country Club in North Reading. This year’s tournament will be played in memory of the late Joe Ranno, a graduate of Wilmington High and football from the 1997 through 2000 seasons.

Along with the Ranno family, The Wilmington Touchdown Club is proud to honor Joe’s memory and support the Wilmington High School Football Team at the same time. Without the proceeds from the tournament many of the programs that the Wilmington Touchdown Club offers, especially the scholarships, simply wouldn’t be possible.
