Butters Row Resident Holds Lemonade Fundraiser for Charity

Five-year-old Sophia Plouffe proved last week to be one of Wilmington's youngest philanthropists.

You don't need to be grown up to give back. And if you need proof, look no further than Sophie Plouffe.

The five-year-old Butters Row resident set up shop in her yard on Thursday evening, selling lemonade to passing cars in an effort to raise money for the Vest-a-Dog non-profit organization that provides bulletproof vests for police K-9 dogs.

Plouffe's goal was to raise $200, which is the amount a single K-9 first aid kit costs. Thanks to her lemonade stand and additional donations in the following days, she raised $220.

Last year at just four years old, Plouffe held a similar fundraiser. She raised enough money to buy some new children's books for Wilmington Memorial Library.

"This year I just wanted to help the dogs," said Plouffe.
