Spectacular Fireworks Cap Off a Week of Fun on the Fourth

A week of great food, entertainment, activities and community was capped off Saturday evening with a spectacular fireworks display.

Wilmington's 33rd annual Fun on the Fourth festivities went out with a bang Saturday evening with the Spectacular Fireworks display.

The Town Common was as crowded as it had been over the near weeklong Fourth of July celebrations.

A concert by the Windham Community Band led into the fireworks, but residents had their chairs and blankets set up for the fireworks well in advance of their 9:30 p.m. start.

Earlier this week, we reported that Tony Gentile, the man who has set off Wilmington’s massive fireworks show in recent years, would be returning this year despite unexploded shells found in Wilmington.

Wilmington Fire Lt. Dan Hurley said that this year Gentile and his crew will be required to do a sweep of the area as soon as the fireworks show is over. They also must do the same first thing on Sunday morning.
